A 22-foot tall golden statue of President Trump with his fist raised in triumph was recently unveiled at the Trump National Doral Miami golf course. Footage of the dedication quickly went viral online, as 30 million people and counting witnessed evangelical leaders praying over and blessing the towering statue, igniting fierce debate online over whether these faith leaders were praising Trump less as a leader or as a deity.
Now, the South Carolina megapastor who unveiled and dedicated the statue is trying his best amid mass internet backlash to assure critics that this massive gold statue of the leader of the United States is not a golden idol as described in the Book of Exodus.
Are pro-Trump Christian leaders actually engaging in idol worship?
“Not a Golden Calf”
Pastor Mark Burns, a longtime Trump ally who led the dedication, stated that the statue “is a celebration of life and a powerful symbol of resilience, freedom, patriotism, courage, and the will to keep fighting for America.” But many drew immediate comparisons between the religious overtones of the ceremony and the statue’s golden color to the golden calf in the Book of Exodus.
In the Book of Exodus, the golden calf refers to the idol crafted by the Israelites while Moses was atop Mount Sinai receiving the Ten Commandments. Believing Moses had abandoned them, the people melted down their gold jewelry and fashioned a calf to worship - an act widely viewed in Christianity and Judaism as one of the Bible’s clearest warnings against idolatry and the worship of false gods.
It’s a comparison Pastor Burns hoped to avoid. “Let me say this plainly,” he wrote. “This is not a golden calf. We worship the Lord Jesus Christ and Him alone.”
Social media wasn’t buying Burns’ explanation. That biblical imagery immediately flooded social media timelines, with critics accusing Trump supporters of elevating the president to quasi-religious status. Memes, Bible verses, and side-by-side comparisons between the Trump statue and traditional depictions of the golden calf quickly spread online.
Meanwhile, others found the incident stranger than fiction.
The mass social media response put Pastor Burns on the defense. “One of the greatest honors of my life was leading the dedication of President Donald J. Trump’s statue to the world,” he explained. “What amazes me is how quickly some people have compared this beautiful statue, created and made possible by more than 6,000 patriots, to a golden calf or idol worship.”
Are They Worshiping Donald Trump?
Whether the statue is simply an over-the-top political tribute or something veering uncomfortably close to religious idolatry depends largely on who you ask.
Supporters see the massive golden monument as a patriotic symbol honoring a political figure they believe changed the country, while critics argue that the imagery – particularly the gold coloring, worshipful language, and evangelical blessing ceremony – looks an awful lot like idol worship.
Either way, the spectacle has once again highlighted the increasingly blurred line between faith and politics in modern America.
What is your response?

They used the wrong scriptures to make their point; "Therefore at that time, when all the peoples heard the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music, all the peoples, the nations, and the languages fell down and worshiped the golden image of himself that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up." Daniel 3 : 7

CM, you'll never see that....

This is obviously a flaunting of the 1st Commadment. It appears that Trump is drinking in all the adoration. He is the most narcissistic person I have ever heard about. History shows that it does not bode well for these types of people. It will be interesting to see how God deals with him

I think Ketanji Brown-Jackson has Trump beat as far as wanting to be worshipped goes...

How so?

Nah! I don’t think so Colleen, the god you like to believe in is way more narcissistic than our President. Don’t forget that your god loves to be worshipped and if anyone doesn’t toe-the-line or upsets him, like Pharaoh did, he’ll kill people, especially children. Please don’t forget you idolise and worship that particular god.

God doesn't interfere with any human actions, deep down you know it's true. He gave us what? FREE WILL. What you believe is the bs the Catholic Church and King James wrote, and it's sad to me that you christians think God is some bipolar ego maniac that messed up when he created man.

Yes it is a idol be it Gold or marble it is how the people react to it. It is a terrible time we live in.His base follows every word from his mouth, they are worshipping him not God. Religion has no place in the political realm and vice versa. I cannot understand why the pastor Burns said it is not not an idol. Best we can do is pray that they learn about true faith and love of God before it is too late.

Please explain how this statue is a "Golden Idol" when nobody worships this statue.

Oh how beautiful!
Sadly, they missed adding a crown 👑 to his head, but other than that, I’m sure Liberals and anyone on the left will struggle big time with it, but that’s okay. I’m so looking forward to seeing all your very positive comments here by everyone on this beautiful topic about our wonderful democratically elected President to brighten my day. 🇺🇸
All Hail, President Trump! 🤗
