The Monastery Blog Code of Conduct

Introduction

The Universal Life Church Monastery blog covers a wide array of topics from the world of faith. Beneath each post, we facilitate discussion and debate amongst our global community of ministers. The goal of these conversations is to allow for the respectful sharing of opinions and the pursuit of greater mutual understanding. We admire the diversity of views shared by our ministers, as well as their ability to carry out thoughtful discussions on difficult subjects.

With that said, the ULC blog is a place where everyone should feel safe, included, and valued. The following Code of Conduct outlines our expectations for all those who participate in our community and the consequences for violating our rules.

Core Principles

  • Respect: Every user has the right to be treated with kindness and respect. Please interact with others in a courteous and positive manner.
  • Constructive Engagement: Engage thoughtfully and constructively in discussions. Criticize ideas, not people. Share your ideas in a way that fosters growth and understanding of the issues.
  • Privacy: Respect the privacy of others. Do not disclose the personal information of other users without their explicit permission. For safety reasons, users are also discouraged from sharing their own personal information.

Unacceptable Behavior

Unacceptable behaviors include, but are not limited to:

  • Use of profanity
  • Harassment, intimidation, or personal threats
  • Deliberate provocation, insults, or derogatory comments
  • Encouraging or inciting any form of violence
  • Spam of any sort (promotional links, repeated duplicate comments, etc.)

Comment Review Process

The ULC blog system has a review process that requires most comments to be manually approved by our team. While our team does its best to review and approve comments in a timely fashion, they do have other duties to attend to throughout the day that can occasionally cause delays in approval times.

Furthermore, any comments that come through the system on nights or weekends may face additional delays, as the office is not typically staffed during those times.

If your comments aren't showing up at all, even after waiting for moderation review, it's possible that they were not approved by our team. In general, comments are rejected because they were judged to violate our Code of Conduct.

Our team also reserves the right to shut down comment sections or specific threads if the discussion devolves to a point where it is no longer respectful or constructive.

Reporting and Enforcement

Our team does their best to fairly judge comments based on this Code of Conduct, but mistakes do occur from time to time. If you feel another commenter has violated any of these rules (or if you feel a comment of yours was unfairly moderated) we'd encourage you to report the comment in question so our team can conduct an additional review.

We will investigate all complaints and take immediate appropriate action. Disciplinary actions may include, but are not limited to, warnings, temporary or permanent bans, and referral to platform providers or law enforcement as necessary.

Amendments

This Code of Conduct may be revised and updated periodically. We reserve the right to amend this policy as necessary. By continuing to use the blog after changes are made, you agree to abide by the revised Code of Conduct.

Conclusion

By participating in this community, you agree to abide by this Code of Conduct. We hope that these guidelines will make our blog a safe and enjoyable place for everyone, and we thank you for your cooperation as we work to ensure your voices are heard.
