cardboard sign reading 'abolish ice' at protest
The protesters disrupted Sunday worship at a church service where an ICE chief also serves as pastor.

UPDATE 01/26/26: The unrest in Minneapolis has only intensified with the January 24 shooting of Alex Pretti by an ICE agent. Pretti, an ICU nurse for the US Department of Veterans Affairs in Minneapolis, was filming at an anti-ICE protest when he was wrestled to the ground by ICE agents and shot in the back at least ten times. Pretti was legally carrying a handgun, but was not brandishing it during the incident.

There has been widespread backlash in the wake of the shooting, including from faith leaders. Cardinal Joseph Tobin of Newark, New Jersey – one of the highest ranking Catholic officials in the United States –  even urged his fellow Catholics to tell their congressional representatives to reject ICE funding, calling it a "lawless organization."

In response to ICE funding, Tobin said: "I think if we are serious about putting our faith in action, we need to say 'no,' each one of us. What saying ‘no’ looks like today is by telling the truth about what is happening and honoring those whose lives are upended."

He continued: "We mourn for a world, a country, that allows 5-year-olds to be legally kidnapped and protesters to be slaughtered."

The original story, detailing disruption of a Minneapolis church service by anti-ICE advocates, is below.

Do activists have a right to take their protest to the pews?

That’s the question many are asking after roughly three dozen protesters – among them former CNN host Don Lemon – entered Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota chanting “ICE out” and “Justice for Renee Good” in support of the woman killed by an ICE agent in Minneapolis earlier this month.

The protesters say they chose to disrupt a service at Cities Church because one of its pastors, David Easterwood, heads a local ICE field office.

Demonstrators argue that Easterwood has overseen the brutalization and illegal arrests of immigrants and peaceful protesters alike. In recent court filings, he has reportedly defended the use of flash-bang grenades and tear gas on protesters.

Critics say the demonstration was a desecration of a house of worship. Meanwhile, protesters say that desperate times call for desperate measures.

Protest in the Pews

Some three dozen protesters livestreamed themselves entering Cities Church in St. Paul in the midst of Sunday service. Loudly chanting anti-ICE messages, they made their way unobstructed through the pews and up to the pulpit. Footage from the livestream shows parishioners visibly confused and alarmed at the interruption.

For Don Lemon, the act was one of righteous protest in the name of Christ. "Jesus turned the tables over in the temple, right? He flipped the tables because He was tired of them not doing what they're supposed to do in His Father's house, and not living up to the tenets of Christianity," Lemon said in an interview following the protest.

However, many faith leaders spoke out in the church’s defense, arguing that disrupting religious service was simply a step too far.

“No cause — political or otherwise — justifies the desecration of a sacred space or the intimidation and trauma inflicted on families gathered peacefully in the house of God,” wrote Kevin Ezell, president of the North American Mission Board. “What occurred was not protest; it was lawless harassment.”

“An outrageous assault” is how National Religious Broadcasters CEO Troy A. Miller described the protest. He continued:

“Christians are under siege as the most persecuted religious group in our nation, facing escalating hostility from those who seek to silence our faith. These protesters didn't just interrupt a service, they desecrated a sacred sanctuary, frightened families, harassed innocent believers, and directly challenged our constitutional right to worship without fear or coercion.”

How Is the Trump Admin Responding?

Trump officials also rallied to the church’s side. Harmeet Dhillon, the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Justice, wrote on social media: “A house of worship is not a public forum for your protest! It is a space protected from exactly such acts by federal criminal and civil laws!”

Meanwhile, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi vowed that protesters would be investigated and prosecuted by the Trump DOJ.

Don Lemon's presence got special attention from the White House, prompting an official response from President Trump, who said Lemon “accosted” the pastor and called him a “loser” and a “lightweight”.

Critics of the Trump administration say there's a clear double standard at play when it comes to protesting in the pews. They argue that incidents of worship disruption at pro-LGBTQ+ churches like Joy Metropolitan Ministries in Orlando, Florida, received no attention or response from Washington.

Following Jesus’ Example?

While some clearly feel the protest overstepped the line, advocates say it was necessary to call out hypocrisy within the church.

“When you think about the federal government unleashing barbaric ICE agents upon our community and all the harm that they have caused, to have someone serving as a pastor who oversees these ICE agents, is almost unfathomable to me,” said Nekima Levy Armstrong, who helped organize the protest and who is also an ordained reverend.

“If people are more concerned about someone coming to a church on a Sunday and disrupting business as usual than they are about the atrocities that we are experiencing in our community, then they need to check their theology and the need to check their hearts.”

Armstrong also says she’s simply doing what Jesus would do. “Jesus… went into the so-called houses of God, he flipped over tables… So that’s what we did today. We flipped over a table for truth, justice, and righteousness.”

What is your response? Are houses of worship simply too sacred a space to politicize with protest? Or do historic moments call for a historic response?

They came in Illegally therefore they’re already without any legal rights. To disrupt a Church like that should be illegal in its self.

If ICE is truly looking for criminal (murderers, rapists, felons, etc.) illegals and not just illegal immigrants who want to become citizens, then I'm all for ICE doing their jobs. And any illegal that is here and wishes to become an American citizen, should be allowed to go through the immigration process and get documented! And I also believe that these illegals should learn the American language and stop being catered to in their language. They should learn the history of our country and have allegiance to this country. My ancestors came here from Italy decades ago and learned the language, honored the American flag, celebrated the American holidays, and still celebrated their Italian traditions in their homes. We got nothing for free, and nor should anyone else unless you qualify for it. But above all, we were upstanding law abiding citizens! Citizens that built this country from the ground up and not drained the country financially! We asked for nothing and got nothing!

Years past, "the Church", spoke in general terms of morals, honesty, and the lessons of Jesus. This put the church on sacred ground. But, recently, "the church" has become political. It's weighed in on topics of gay people just being gay, immigration reform , etc and mandatory donation to the church. All of this moves the church from sacred ground into a political arena. I believe that the teachings of Jesus REQUIRES us to shine a light on this morphing of his house into something less. His teachings are to encompass us all..he loved us ALL..to practice any type of division violates his teachings. And when its the pastor who espouses those beliefs, the congregation MUST speak out!

No religious representative of any kind should have a leading position in government. Regardless of how high up the ladder that position might hold. Separation of church and state is there for a reason.

If churches do not want involvment from pretestors and want those protections and respects to be upheld. Then they should have been more outraged when ice was walking in and dragging people out of their halls

Ice in its current state is not functioning as intended. They have no business harassing people in the streets, pulling children out of schools,or dragging workers and honest employees out of their jobs and homes. They are acting like untrained tyrants that abuse power that was not awarded to them by the American people.

I'm for the protests at the church purely because of its involement in with Ice. He can either step out if the church or resign from Ice. And stop pretending to be a good Christian on the weekends when it's convenient.

First, it is not OK to interrupt a church service ever. Is it alright to come to your work and shout at you because I feel your a bad neighbor? Or you abuse your dog by leaving it out in the cold?

Interesting enough in the Minnesota there appear to be no local law enforcement from City or State at any of the protests. Essentially the "protestors" have been given free rein to do what they please. Denigrating Law Enforcement personnel during the performance of their duty. Is not worthy of our communities. Interfering with law enforcement is illegal. Finally, never bring a firearm to a protest, that speaks to the possible of deadly force.

If you believe that illegal immigration into our country is OK, then you need a reality check. It's not OK, it is a burden on our society and resources. Explain to me how you have been here for 10 plus years and never took steps to be here legally. Only when they are caught here do they have the desire to speak out and say they love it here and want to stay and it is unfair.

Act or be acted upon. Can't pay your tax make arrangements with the IRS, here illegally get a immigration lawyer. Don't care about our system of laws do nothing and get scooped up.

    1. Michael Hunt's Avatar Michael Hunt

"Finally, never bring a firearm to a protest, that speaks to the possible of deadly force."

So much for the Second Amendment, then. If bringing a firearm to a protest is justification for a government official to kill you, we don't have the right to bear arms.

I'd like to know why you believe undocumented immigrants are a burden on our society and resources. They're not eligible for any government benefits or assistance such as medicare, social security, or EBT but they contribute billions of dollars to the government in taxes.

      https://itep.org/undocumented-immigrants-taxes-2024/

Also, the overwhelming majority of undocumented immigrants in the US want to immigrate through legal means and many have tried or are trying to do so but get denied for things such as being considered a "low-skilled" worker or because of a quota system that puts the same cap on migrants coming from England as they do Mexico despite a significant difference in demand.

I served in law enforcement when I was [much] younger. ICE officers are well-trained Federal law enforcement officers, and as such, should be respected. Part of their training is that it is necessary to make fast decisions that can mean the difference between life and death for them and others. They are human, too, and mistakes have been made.

These protests have been over-the-top. Protesters are impeding their assigned duties. Lies are being propagated. Law enforcement officers cannot do their job because of the violent protesters that are at the least standing in their way, and at worst trying to kill them; protesters are regularly assaulting the officers on duty. Assaulting any law enforcement officer is a violent crime. ICE Officers are taking custody of illegal aliens, most of whom have committed terrible, violent crimes against American Citizens. For the most part, illegal aliens who have not committed any crime except entering the USA without permission, are left alone.

ICE agents are not doing anything illegal, and they need to be allowed to do their jobs.

    1. Michael Hunt's Avatar Michael Hunt

While I can't speak to your law enforcement history, almost everything else you said is false.

ICE officers, at least under the current administration, have shown they are not well trained officers, nor should being well trained as law enforcement be automatic reason for being respected. Mistakes do get made, but you cannot tell me that the final shots taken at Alex Pretti was a mistake due to a fast decision. The victim is lying on the ground, not moving, and yet an officer continued to fire at him.

There are not violent protesters attacking ICE agents. There are protesters watching what ICE is doing, making sure people's rights aren't being violated, and in some cases peacefully blocking ICE facilities to hinder their actions in protest of ICE's violent actions. So far, 9 people have died due to ICE officers this month, 7 of which were people in detention, one of those deaths has been determined a homicide by a medical examiner and a witness says officers strangled the man to death. Meanwhile, I have not heard of a single ICE officer being killed, let alone seriously injured.

ICE is not only going after violent criminals; the majority of those detained or deported have no criminal record at all besides their immigration status. ICE is harassing and detaining US citizens because they are racially profiling for possible undocumented immigrants to deport. Multiple US citizens and legal residents have been detained by ICE without cause and there are plenty of videos out there of ICE officers approaching a person of color and asking them for their papers. That's not a free country.

Yes, lies are being perpetuated, but you're the one perpetuating them.

    2. Johnnie Roberte Lambert's Avatar Johnnie Roberte Lambert

Mistakes have been made? Taking innocent lives because they exercise their right to non-violent protest? Much like the Civil Rights movement, right? Real ICE agents may be trained, but these are not all "real" ICE agents. The second amendment which you uphold even in the aftermath of multiple mass school shootings doesn't apply to anyone except Reds, right? People marching and holding cameras (that's the real offense, not the gun) to document the barbarity is the problem right? This country has devolved into a sycophantic dictatorship led by Nazis.

How many churches in America have people living in them? If any, it is very rare. If illegal immigrants were found to be in a church, they will probably eventually leave it, and can be picked up by government authorities outside the house of God. If a pastor is engaged in any illegal activity, he could be picked up when leaving the church, or from his home away from the place of worship. There are very, very few good reasons to enter a church while services are in session in order to arrest anyone, unless it happens to be a matter of hot pursuit.

Here is my opinion, fir what it is worth. I find it very hypocritical that a minister is actually an ICE agent. For me, as a person who has been studying holy texts since I was in elementary school, and have a Master's degree in Theology, the very thing that ICE stands for tight now, with all they have done, the cruelties and atrocities, seem in opposition, with a spiritual leader. I am nit sure going into a church to protest, where there are children, was the right thing. That could scare the kids. But protesting that type of hypocrisy is completely in their rights, and I believe well deserved. As far as Christianity, I feel like people need to read their Bibles. My take on the teachings of Jesus show a man who was not politically inclined. He taught kindness and compassion. He taught love of immigrants, welcoming into your country. As a child, he and his family were refugees. He lived others as they were. And the politicians and religious leaders, were the ones who crucified him.

There was no militia in that church; they were there because one of the pastors was misidentified as an ICE agent, and BTW, the word "fascist" has lost its meaning due to the overuse and misuse of the term. The first is about community coming together to protect each other from a serious illness and the other is about being afraid of your government killing you for dissenting, a.k.a. authoritarianism.

If the leader of the Church doesn't have a problem with the protest neither should onlookers. If the protest is truly peaceful, then it wouldn't be offensive to anyone. What we have here is a case of hidden violence waiting for opportunity. There are ways of protest that do not lead to violence. And all ICE agents are not responsible for the death of Mrs Good. To hold all to her death is unfair. And dare I say it's looking more like she was murdered for being lesbian... Not for being a criminal?

You have to remember religion has always played the role of devil's advocate because the folk hiding from truth use religion as a crutch.

When our younger generation sees this they do the opposite. They do this because they're learning violence doesn't get change done. And they face more violence being peaceful than those who show up starting or inciting "war" against an oppressor. Again, you have to look at both sides of this conversation in order to see the truth. ICE is not to blame as a whole, and using religion to protest is inviting and inciting. Protest because she was murdered, protest because you have evidence of that. But impeding the job of a federal officer is only asking for more trouble. Facts before action is what needs to be acknowledged.

I find it an oxymoron for someone to be an ICE agent AND a minister. The two “professions” are totally incongruous. When a minister becomes an ICE agent, they stop serving god and start playing god. I would not have protested the way they did, but I approve of their protest.

Fortunately, over 2 million illegal aliens have done the right thing and voluntarily left the country, which is obviously a very wise decision for them and their families. Those that volunteer to leave will have the option of applying to re-enter legally, thats how it should be.

Ministers here on this blog have declared they want Christians dead. A very nice and peaceful Muslim here would like a Quran crammed down my throat. Some of the extremely tolerant ministers here want my children taken from me because I tell them they were created. God forbid I teach my boys to be proper men. Yuck, right?

Hearing that a law abiding Christian preacher wants to see law followed shouldn't shock you very much at all, even if you're accustomed to and promote lawlessness.

        I think you can Patricia.

If a dude who raped my daughter was hiding in church and protected by the church goers, I want the fuzz in that church quick and now. I want anyone who protected the criminal in front of a judge the next day.

Churches are in the wrong while harboring fugitives.

        1. Patricia Ann Gross's Avatar Patricia Ann Gross

There's another option. Surround the church, and wait for the person to leave after the service concludes. Negotiate a release with the pastor or church elders. If I believed that the ICE agents were going after rapists with a valid warrant I might think differently, but they aren't. They pick a church because of the number of immigrants going there, and then round everyone who has dark skin or speaks with an accent up. They aren't using due process, and that's the problem. They are trying to meet Stephen Miller's arbitrary 3,000 arrests each day to secure their sign-on bonuses.

          1. ServantOfJudgement's Avatar ServantOfJudgement

Manuel Noriega spent 10 days protected in a church while surrounded by US forces afraid of just going in to get him. That cost $40 million.

We ended up blasting rock and roll music so loud it practically made the walls melt. They attacked the church with sound. Not good. Funny, but not good.

No games, no fluff, no woosie stuff. Just go get the criminal, if the priest and parishioners are protecting him, jail them too. Sorry to be so hard boiled but I don't like games.

Furthermore, that illegal alien could also be wanted for rape or murder. You really think that's a noble cause to protect a fugitive guilty of crimes you don't know what they are?

            1. Patricia Ann Gross's Avatar Patricia Ann Gross

How can someone be guilty of crimes you don't know what they are? In this country, everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. It's in the Constitution, if you need a refresher. Federal Law, established and ratified June 21, 1788. It is illegal for ANY LEO to round up people and throw them into detention centers because of what they "might have done," there is a pesky little thing called "probable cause for arrest." If you are ever arrested for something you didn't do, you would sing praises to God for those provisions, established by the founding fathers.

If there is reasonable cause to believe someone has committed a crime, get a judicial warrant to arrest them. These churches aren't ignoring judicial warrants, they're not allowing federal agents to enter their building without their permission, per the 4th amendment.

Are you referring to these dudes that were all hiding in plain sight among their parishioners. Here's just a short list holier than thou child sexual predators.

Numerous clergymen, primarily within the Roman Catholic Church but also in Protestant and non-denominational institutions, have been found guilty of sexual abuse, grooming, and child exploitation over the past several decades. While thousands have been accused, the following are notable examples of individuals who were criminally convicted or pleaded guilty to predatory sexual behavior. High-Profile Catholic Clergy Convictions Cardinal George Pell: The former Vatican treasurer was convicted in Australia in 2018 for sexually assaulting two choir boys in the 1990s. His conviction was later overturned by the High Court of Australia in 2020 after he had served time in prison. John Geoghan (Boston): Accused of abusing over 130 children, Geoghan was sentenced to 9–10 years in prison in 2002 for indecent assault. He was murdered in prison in 2003. Paul Shanley (Boston): Known as the "Street Priest," he was sentenced in 2005 to 12–15 years for raping a six-year-old boy. James Porter (Massachusetts): Pleaded guilty in 1993 to molesting 28 children, though he admitted to abusing over 100. He was sentenced to 18–20 years in prison. Rudolph Kos (Dallas): Sentenced to life in prison in 1998 for aggravated sexual assault of multiple altar boys. Robert McWilliams (Cleveland): Sentenced to life in prison in 2021 for child sexual exploitation and pornography; he died by suicide in prison in 2022. Richard Daschbach (East Timor): An American priest defrocked by the Vatican and sentenced to 12 years in prison in 2021 for abusing girls in a shelter he founded. Robin Vadakkumchery (India): Sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2019 for raping a 15-year-old girl. Teddy Labour (Mauritius): A priest arrested and convicted for molesting a young churchgoer. Brendan Smyth (Ireland): A serial offender who abused children over four decades across Ireland and the US. Protestant/Evangelical Convictions Robert Morris (Gateway Church, USA): The founder of the Texas megachurch pleaded guilty in 2025 to child sex abuse charges involving a 12-year-old girl in the 1980s. Randy Saylor (Living Word International, USA): A former associate pastor who pleaded no contest to 11 counts of criminal sexual conduct with children in 2026. Tony Alamo (USA): A cult leader convicted in 2009 of transporting minors across state lines for sex, sentenced to 150 years in federal prison. Feyi Daniels (Nigeria): The founder of Irene Christian Ministry was sentenced to life in prison for rape. Key Figures Convicted of Covering Up Abuse Monsignor William Lynn (Philadelphia): The first U.S. church official convicted (2012) of endangering the welfare of a child for his role in covering up and shielding predatory priests. Prolific Offenders and Repeated Assignments Michael Baker (Los Angeles): Identified as one of the archdiocese's most prolific abusers; he admitted to abuse, was sent to treatment, allowed to return to ministry, and then convicted in 2007, later violating parole. Gilbert Gauthe (Louisiana): Confessed in 1985 to abusing 37 children, though estimations suggest a much higher number. His case was one of the first major, widely covered Catholic scandals in the US. Robert Gale (Boston): Sentenced in 2004 to over 4 years in prison for raping a 10-year-old altar boy after being transferred between parishes for decades despite complaints. These cases are part of a broader, global crisis that has led to thousands of allegations, resulting in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles settling for $660 million in 2007 and the Archdiocese of Boston paying over $100 million in settlements.

It’s not just in that church, it’s anywhere where people are attempting to peacefully protest, or worship. Anyone that is white are now being classed as fascists unless they can insist/prove they didn’t vote for President Trump, but in reality, these are the true fascists. They are totally against law and order, and hate the United States and all that it stands for. Please don’t try and tell me otherwise because if you do, you are part of the problem.

None of these people are being paid to protest. There is zero evidence to support that. Anecdotally, I've been to lots of protests and know lots of people who attend more regularly than I do and not a single one of us have been paid to be there. If you have some reporting showing a person like Soros funding violent rioters, I'd love to see it.

"Anyone that is white are now being classed as fascists unless they can insist/prove they didn’t vote for President Trump"

This is so absurd and untrue. There are, however, many people who currently support Trump who are indeed fascists and are rightly classified as so, but they're not all white and certainly being white and having previously voted for Trump isn't automatic classification as a fascist. The irony here is that you're calling all of these protestors "socialist/communist civilian criminals" if they are out there protesting and accusing some of them of being "career rioters/thugs, possibly paid for by George Soros, hell bent on causing mayhem" despite no evidence of that.

"They are totally against law and order, and hate the United States and all that it stands for."

Did you forget this country was founded on violent revolution against the British? That was against law and order at the time and now it's a core principle of what the USA stands for. Protesting, especially against violent government agents terrorizing your community, is one of the most American things a person can do.

Apparently, though, telling you this makes me the problem, not the ICE officers throwing tear gas into a family's car while they tried to drive home from a child's basketball game, or the ones who are physically and sexually assaulting detainees, or the ones keeping detainees in inhumane, degrading centers with little to no access to the outside world. It's me and the people saying, "no, you can't take my neighbor and treat them like that" who are the real problem... Madness.

Should all of the Germans in 1940 have pulled together for the good of the Reich and supported the Nazis as they put "undesirables" into concentration camps?

These aren't "civilian riots" by any means but maybe you should consider that "a riot is the language of the unheard" as MLK once said. You should actually try and listen with an open mind instead of a predetermined narrative.

ICE is not going after only violent criminals. They are going after anyone they think appears to be an undocumented immigrant. The majority of those detained by ICE have no criminal history outside of their immigration status.

We don't treat ICE with compassion because they do not treat others with compassion. They violently assault those in detention, subject them to inhumane detention centers, and have killed 9 people this month. They've thrown a flash bang grenade into a family's car as they left a youth basketball game. Why should we be accommodating to people behaving that way, let alone tolerate it?

          1. Patricia Ann Gross's Avatar Patricia Ann Gross

Thank you Michael, you said it well. I'll say it again because it is worth repeating until someone finally hears it. We don't oppose arresting criminals as long as they follow the laws of due process. This means they have enough probable cause to obtain a warrant for a specific criminal, and then round them up. Grabbing people off the streets because of how they look or speak is not probable cause, nor is it exigent circumstances. If a rapist is suspected to be in a church during a worship service, take the evidence to a judge, get a search warrant, and arrest the person. Then before you throw put him on a plane to go free in his own country of origin (or another one), try him and incarcerate him here so that justice can be served.

Why is it after the 40 years of penance in the desert for disobeying God's commandments, did Joshua and his warriors, and with God's blessing enter into the land of Canaan and immediately start breaking the commandments given to them by God. Here are some of the commandments I believe that Joshua and the Hebrews broke. Thou shall not kill. Thou shall not commit adultery. Thou shall not steal. Jesus did not disrupt a service by overturning tables in the temple courts. He was outside the Sanctuary. These protesters went inside the church and protested during a time of Worship. That is crossing the line. As to the Pastor being an ICE agent, that is up to his congregants to allow or not allow their pastor to do that.

As for me, I would not attend a church that supported barbaric acts such as the recent ICE raids. Nazis have no place in America.

Here is just the short list of hypocritical pastors that have protested in their churches from the pulpit.

Several prominent evangelical pastors and conservative religious leaders have explicitly criticized, protested, or urged resistance against the policies of the Biden administration from their pulpits. Here are examples of Evangelical pastors who protested or heavily criticized the Biden administration from their pulpits: Robert Jeffress (First Baptist Church of Dallas, TX): In a December 2021 sermon, Jeffress labeled the Biden administration the "ungodliest" in U.S. history. He accused the administration of attacking religious liberty, promoting "immoral transgender philosophy," and opposing restrictions on abortion, declaring, "if the Biden administration doesn't like it, they can hang it on their beak". Ed Young (Second Baptist Church, Houston, TX): In April 2024, Young criticized President Biden from his pulpit, calling his administration "godless" and attacking a proclamation that recognized Transgender Day of Visibility, which coincided with Easter that year. Young referred to the administration's actions as a "godless attack on Christianity". John MacArthur (Grace Community Church, Sun Valley, CA): Following the 2021 inauguration, MacArthur used his pulpit to warn President Biden against "blaspheming" God. He heavily criticized the administration's stance on LGBTQ+ rights, immigration, and the promotion of transgender rights, framing them as actions against biblical marriage and gender. Jack Hibbs (Calvary Chapel Chino Hills, CA): Hibbs has frequently used his pulpit to criticize the Biden administration and the Democratic party, referring to their policies on abortion and gender as a "death cult". He has urged his congregation not to support the party in national elections. Various Pastors (Resistance Rhetoric): In early 2021, some pastors argued that addressing "resistance to the Biden administration" was part of their pastoral duty regarding issues like the sanctity of life and human sexuality, noting they would not sacrifice "truth" for unity with the new administration.

Jesus was inside the temple when he turned the money chargers tables.

      1. The temple was the literal property of God. This was fully known and understood by all Jews at the time.
      2. God has full authority over His property.
      3. Jesus is God.
      4. The owner of the temple passed judgment on those who violated His laws while on His property.

    There will always be false teachers and false teachings and in this area the LEFTIST "Faith leaders", as false teachers, are engaging in false teachings to inspire these activists. Here is what I mean;

They're always taking verses from the Old Testament, like from Leviticus 19:33-34 that (paraphrased) say to be kind to the stranger among you and treat them as if they were native born.

That's okay, as far as it goes. But it means if someone visiting from China or Germany or Russia or Canada or Ecuador or Nigeria etc. that you treat them in a friendly, courteous manner.

HOWEVER, what those verses and verses like it do NOT mean is that you have to tolerate those foreigners in your land that break or are breaking the laws of your land.

Particular to this situation when the law they break was how they came into your land in the first place.

So, if you want to talk about treating them like the native born...when a native born person breaks the law they suffer the appropriate penalty.

That could be anything from a temporary detainment to full arrest, receiving a citation and later a fine for some minor offense, county jail time or going to state or federal prison for a major offense.

In the case of people who enter the country illegally the appropriate penalty is arrest and deportation.

OR if they enter the country legally through an asylum application. Then down the line they have their court hearings and their application is not granted and they're issued an order of deportation. But then they fail to follow that order so ICE has to go into the community to get them.

So yes, as far as breaking the law and receiving the appropriate penalties are concerned, illegal immigrants are being treated just like American citizens.

There is nothing in Christian teachings that says a person is exempt from penalties under Earthly laws because of Christian love and charity as outlined in the New Testament.

As far as Matthew chapter 25 goes, If you will look at verse 36 Jesus acknowledges that there are people in prison, but he does not say you have to free them from that, or any other, Earthly justice as an act of compassion (now interpreted as an act of Christian Compassion).

Lastly, why can't an ICE agent or official be a Christian pastor? If a police officer or deputy sheriff or state trooper or FBI agent can all be pastors, why not an ICE agent.

Because, as far as I know, someone enforcing laws you just don't like is not something that would disqualify somebody from being a Christian pastor.

As a resident of Minneapolis, I observe brutality, criminality and unconstitutional acts to citizens and non citizens alike by DHS, CBP and ICE. Really. There are ministers who support abortion, but, because this guy also happens to be an ICE agent you criticize him for working towards ridding us of illegals, and o ly God knows how many are totally criminal. Our Criminal Code of Law states illegal aliens are criminal. It's a violation of U.S. Law to cole into our country illegally. Come here legally like many families did. I take offense because my family came here and landed at Jamestown. We came here legally. It was not on the first ships. Most of these illegitimate morons were organized to cooe here and paid to do so. Most 3rd world morons aren't going to have a smart phone and thousands of dollars to give to cartels to get them into the country. So please, I am sure you're a liberal to even judge the minister or the approval of the tactics they use. If you were in their shoes facing threats from protestors, some who do mean violence you might be alittle aggressive also. Facing protestors who get their information from leaks out of the DHS which is treason putting agents lives in danger, and the agents are harassed every moment ofvthe working day. Why do yoj crazy Americans defend illegal aliens. It doesn't make any sense at all.

      1. Patricia Ann Gross's Avatar Patricia Ann Gross

        Keith,

I think you're listening to too much of the right wing rhetoric. First, there are few ministers that would advocate for abortions, but will defend a woman's right to choose. Pro-choice does NOT mean pro-abortion. You can still be pro-choice and not ever choose an abortion for yourself, but realize that you have no say or standing to judge someone with a different choice.

"Us" Americans aren't defending illegal immigration or the crimes people who broke the law in coming here have committed. We are opposed to rounding up people by the color of their skin (racial profiling) without the due process afforded in the US Constitution. There have supposedly been tens of thousands of violent criminals deported, but nobody at DHS can give you names or an accurate count, or the types of crimes these criminals have committed. We HAVE heard verified stories of people deported for minor traffic violations without an accident involved, missing or showing up late for an immigration appointment when a spouse was in the hospital, and children picked up at day care centers and kindergartens so they can coerce their parents to come in.

This is not getting the "worst of the worst off the streets. It is an edict by Stephen Miller of a quota of 3,000 arrests every day, and hell to pay if you don't reach it. Therefore, if a grandmother, green card holder, or a naturailzed/native citizen gets caught up in the head-count, the ICE agents won't be faced with losing the $50K bonus they were promised.

There's also the moving goalposts of what is the definition of a "legal" immigrant. Trump has "manufactured" close to a million of those without valid documents by cancelling assylum to all but the white South Africans, and canceling valid work VISAs for people from 19 (perhaps more) countries. These are all people who were following the law when they came into this country, and now are in an abyss of legalities to the point that nobody knows what is legal or not, as it changes every time you turn around.

      2. Michael Hunt's Avatar Michael Hunt

Your family landed in Jamestown, a community built on stolen native land. Trying to take the moral high ground and claim your ancestors came here legally when today's immigrants, who come here in very similar fashion to your ancestors and contribute to our communities instead of killing all the natives, are branded as "illegal criminals" is comical.

        1. ServantOfJudgement's Avatar ServantOfJudgement

          Slight correction Michael.

That old land was sold or traded. To be fair, sometimes stolen. Nothing new to the initial settlers. Naturally the so called native Americans conducted themselves in the same way with one another. Trading and stealing from each other as humans regularly do.

Let's not paint Mr. Eash's predecessors as thieves or worse when none of us actually know the pure truth of the matter. Let's be optimistic about Mr. Eash's unknown ancestors. Quite a few Europeans dealt proper with the initial settlers to the point of self sacrifice. How very Christian of them.

Let's not accuse a man of theft because his great great great great grandfather purchased something from someone willing to sell it.

My ancestors were slaves for the colonies. What did I steal?

          1. Patricia Ann Gross's Avatar Patricia Ann Gross

If it wasn't "stolen" what do you call the US Government (as well as the colonies) breaking literally every treaty they negotiated with the Native Americans when something on the land they "gave" them had something they wanted on it. This continues today by the current administration.

          2. Michael Hunt's Avatar Michael Hunt

I never accused Mr. Eash of being a thief, nor did I accuse his family of being thieves or worse. I only stated that Jamestown, the location his family landed in when coming to this country, was built on land stolen by the settlers. Yes, there was land sold or traded in good faith, but much of it was not. The fact that other groups did similar things does not excuse the wrongs done by another.

            https://nativephilanthropy.candid.org/timeline/era/invasion-from-all-directions-stolen-lands-stolen-peoples/

The point I was making was not to paint Mr. Eash's ancestors as thieves or worse; in fact, doing so would have to implicate my ancestors as well. I'm pointing out that the way our ancestors arrived here is not all that dissimilar to the way undocumented immigrants arrived here and contributed to their communities.

He's automatically branding a whole group of people as "illegal criminals" despite the fact that undocumented immigrants are less likely to commit crimes than US citizens. Much like our ancestors, these people are coming here in search of a better future for themselves and their families.

Rev. Keith Eash: Don't like abortion? Want to stop abortion? Then start an anti-ejaculation university and teach males not to ejaculate into you- know- what--unless they are ready to do the life-long parenting committment. Simple. End of story. Rev. Bond

        1. Patricia Ann Gross's Avatar Patricia Ann Gross

          Rev. Wright,

A better idea is for women to stop having sex unless they want to become pregnant so that every pregnancy is perfectly planned. That would stop all the male anti-abortion rhetoric, and probably a lot of the female rhetoric as well.

          1. Bond Wright's Avatar Bond Wright

The problem with your solution is that not all sex is voluntary; manipulation, co-ercion and outright force is always happening. Why should women be responsible for male ejaculation? It's HIS ejaculation--he should take care of it. Not to do so is the ultimate in irresponsibility. And, is responsible for all the misery in our world including population explosion. If, in fact, it WAS the case that male ejaculation is the recognized responsibility of males--the male pill would be quickly developed. It is the very essence of sexism to expect, without question, that male ejaculation is the absolute problem for women to handle. The silence on this issue is deafening. I am going to be a little blunt here (yes, I apologize about this-- it is the only way to describe it). So this is the scenario: "I get to fire away and you, sister, get to handle it. Tough. It's your problem." AND there is a population of men who get to stomp around and yell at all women for being murderers. Why don't they yell about ejaculation control, I ask you?! And, yes, there have been and probably always will be, males who take care of their own ejaculation. You don't even have to scream at them. They are men of conscience and know, naturally, that their ejaculate IS their responsibility And, that this IS a serious human matter. There are methods: birth control, just pull aside and THEN ejaculate and also there are five days during the reproduction cycle that a female cannot conceive--just retreat during those days. (and just hug each other). Presently, in Los Angeles, all the 99cent stores have closed--they carried condoms. There is on-going a fierce struggle to ban all pregnancy health care--including abortion. Cosco has been harassed by the anti-women's reproductive rights "group" and they have stopped providing this item. All this adds up to more unwanted pregnancies. What! Don't like abortion? Promote vigorous birth control! including teaching males to pull aside. This past year I was in Ireland and I took a cab. The cab driver had a sign on her cab and it said: "If men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament". (Abortion is now legal in Ireland). So much misery could be eliminated if males would simply take responsibility for their ejaculation. If this would ever happen as routine, we as the human race, could move up the consciousness ladder and simply be able to "advance toward pleasure". And, life could be a joy for millions. This is our birthright as human beings. Early pagan peoples referred to sexual intercourse as "the sacred rite". It is and it naturally should be so.

            1. Patricia Ann Gross's Avatar Patricia Ann Gross

FACT: EVERY method of birth control except abstinence (with one exception, if you take and belive the Bible literally) has a rate of failure. That's all I'm saying on this topic, because it is off topic.
