Is a jewelry company featuring a lesbian couple in a commercial “normalizing the LGBTQ lifestyle,” or simply advertising to an underserved market?
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, anti-gay activist group One Million Moms’ latest crusade is against jewelry maker Pandora over their latest ad campaign, "Loves, Unboxed."
The roughly 90-second commercial shows a variety of happy, smiling couples exchanging jewelry – including a female couple dancing and embracing.
You can see the ad in question below.
Now, the group has started a petition protesting the company’s “flaunting” of same-sex relationships in their face… a petition which more than ten thousand individuals have signed in a matter of days.
The “Blatantly” Gay Ad
“Jewelry company Pandora, through its liberal advertising choices, is attempting to normalize the LGBTQ lifestyle,” begins the petition on the One Million Moms website.
Decrying the intimate embrace of a lesbian couple early in the jewelry ad as “blatantly [throwing] homosexuality in the viewer’s face,” the group insists that “Pandora should avoid aiming to please a small percentage of consumers while pushing away conservative customers.”
“It is also of great concern that this commercial is airing when children are likely to be watching,” they said.
Some 13,000+ individuals have signed the petition, “urging Pandora to pull its LGBTQ-inclusive ad immediately.”
Pandora has yet to respond.
Advertisers Walk a Fine Line
It isn’t just the jewelry world that is pivoting towards more inclusive content. LGBTQ+ acceptance has skyrocketed in the last decade, and companies are taking note. Family-focused brands like Disney and Hallmark are including gay characters in their stories, helping reduce stigma against the LGBTQ+ community.
A cynical reading of the situation is that companies – always on the lookout for profit – simply see an underserved market that is now relatively politically safe to market to, and are doing as much.
But there is still the risk of running afoul of religious consumers, some of whom view LGBTQ+ themed advertising as advancing a so-called "gay agenda" that poses a threat to the nation's moral fabric.
And this group's buying power is real. Just look at Bud Light, which is still facing financial repercussions for partnering with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.
The petition’s authors argue that by embracing the relatively small LGBTQ+ community, Pandora is alienating the much larger Christian community.
But with LGBTQ+ acceptance at an all-time high, and “none” is now America’s fastest growing religion, some advertisers think that excluding the LGBTQ+ community poses a greater risk for businesses in the long term.

Homosexuality may not be your natural state. And when did you decide that you were not, and decided that your heterosexual tendency was natural? I remember growing up with a great majority of adults I was around being openly racist. And universally religious. And just as I never understood religion I never understood racism. Of course gays weren’t even discussed.
But as racism slowly became more socially unacceptable the ignorance and stupidity of this sort if person simply found different targets. Maybe 15 years ago my sister seemed to wear the friendship she formed with a black family down the street like a badge of honor. At the same time she was spouting off the conservative rhetoric of the far right about the problems caused by the growing Mexican population.

Watch jewelry commercials from any major player in the industry and if you don't object to all of them, it is clearly the gender of the two people in this ad you have a problem with. Yes, Hell was invented circa 1250 CE. Jesus was a practicing Jew, so he would not have had any concept of Hell, since even today, in 2024, the Jews still do not believe in Hell. There were 3 versions of Christianity that were invented by men: (1) the original apostles argued over allowing Gentiles into the newly invented mythology; (2) Saul/Paul took that version on the road, and added a bunch of stuff to it, and invented it the 3rd Pauline version which lasted until 325 CE, when the Roman Emperor Constantine decided to standardize all religions across the Roman Empire and then impose it upon the entire Roman population. It is at the Council of Nicaea that they newly invented the Trinity to appease the other mythologies that had multiple deities. They also moved Christmas to December rather than keeping it in the Spring near the time when they had to celebrate the death of their god(s) with both so close together. The Winter's "Festival of Lights", Saturnalia, during the Winter Solstice, was the perfect time for the planned liturgy and mythological story!

I realize there is approximately 8 billion people on the planet and that I know very few of them, but of the ones that I know, they would give their lives for their children. I listened to an emergency room doctor years ago relating how the parents of what society would call social outcasts when meeting with him in the ER because their child was dying from an unexpected ordeal offered anything they had to save their lives. I watched on news last week the mother of a children convicted of a mass shooting defending him to the best of her ability. I once met a transexual in Lexington, KY in 1974-1975 time frame. She was beautiful, and was going through transition; she had breast implants already, as well as hormone therapy. She was saving up for her final transition surgery! I also met an intersex person there too! She ("Sweet Evening Breeze", her local name, told me that Johnny did not work any more but that Bessie did!) invited me to her 72nd birthday, where she had a fire dancer as entertainment! I am an old, straight, male, Christian and I find this petition to be an abomination before God. I never remember Jesus, during the sermon on the mount, saying "Blessed are the bigots, for the world will bow to their phobias". It was always my understanding that religion was God's gift to bring humankind together. The greatest perversity is using religion as a club to drive people back into the darkness. As to explaining this social phenomena to children, I doubt that you have to worry. They are far more understanding than adults. They realize that humans come in many colors, sizes, and beliefs. When my daughter asked about the new group of Muslim students attending her school, I simply explained that those girls came from a tradition far different from hers. I added that she must respect their tradition, but follow her own. I also predicted that if she welcomed them, they would become great friends. I keep seeing the words “sexual preference” but it’s not a preference, it’s biological. I was raised in a heterosexual household with no exposure to LGBTQ lifestyle. In fact, I was raised to think it was wrong, abnormal, and sinful. I grew up hiding that part of myself thinking I was bad, that I wasn’t trying hard enough. I prayed daily to not have these feelings, but they stayed. I was a child who thought God and everyone else would hate me if they found out. Fortunately, I discovered that there was nothing wrong with me. I was as normal as everyone else.
I keep hearing that we are pushing this lifestyle in everyone’s face, and to keep it in the bedroom. Don’t hold hands in public, and certainly don’t kiss in public. What would the heterosexual world think if they were harassed for holding hands in public?
You cannot make a straight person gay no more than you can make a gay person straight. We are not trying to indoctrinate anyone, we are trying to tell children they are beautiful the way they are… no matter what they are… straight, gay, or bi.
I say stop indoctrinating children with religion. At least stop telling them the bible is God’s word. God didn’t write it man did. The same type of men who write laws selectively granting or denying rights to specific groups.

There was a time when the nuns in Catholic schools would hit you across the knuckles with a yardstick if you wrote with your left hand. Apparently, left handedness was a sign of Satan. There are people to this day that believe that. You can force someone to only write with their right hand, but it will never be natural for them to do so. One fast clip within a commercial of a gay couple (who may or may not be gay - they are actors) doesn't force anyone to be anything other than what they are. If the "million mom's" want to get upset, let them. I have sympathy for their children because some of them will be gay. That's just how it is.
I remember asking my mother about some of my friends and neighbors that followed different religions - apparent to me by their clothes or food choices, etc. She had a good answer. She said that different people had different beliefs and that was fine, it didn't change how we did things. I had a smart mom.

Marketing directly to lesbians is a brilliant move. Women are by far the majority of the jewelry market's target demographic; cultural standards in the USA allow women more license for wearing more types of and quantities of jewelry. A lesbian shopping for her wife is more liable to see something in the store that she wants for herself than a man shopping for his spouse, because jewelry stores are 90+% women's jewelry. The chance of a multiple sale is higher if women are buying for women.
As for "shoving homosexuality in our faces", I have clear memory of having heterosexuality shoved in our faces for the last five decades, so a rare instance like this is a mere drop in the bucket. It's a shame that organizations claiming to be protective of children don't find something truly problematic to go protest, like threadbare school lunch funds, or the countrywide epidemic of understaffed and undertrained CPS divisions unable to prevent deaths by child abuse or neglect. Kids are dying in horrible ways every day, and two women kissing have nothing to do with that, so One Million Moms needs to get their act together and quit wasting everyone's time with nonsense like this.

Rape is condemned in the Old Testament. For example, Deuteronomy 22:25-27 outlines the severe consequences for a man who commits rape.
Incest: The bible prohibits incest in several places. Leviticus 18 and 20 provide lists of forbidden relationships, including those involving close relatives.

But let's put that in context Shall we? What if the rape happened in the city? So you must purge the evil from among you. But if the man encounters a betrothed woman in the open country, and he overpowers her and lies with her, only the man who has done this must die. Do nothing to the young woman, because she has committed no sin worthy of death. This case is just like one in which a man attacks his neighbor and murders him.…"
The crime here is not the rape, it is a property violation. The rapist has "violated his neighbor's wife!""
War rape was specifically permitted by Deuteronomy 20:10–14. "As for the women, the children, the livestock and everything else in the city, you may take these as plunder for yourselves. And you may use the plunder [Yahweh] your God gives you from your enemies."
In Numbers 31:13–18, Moses instructs his soldiers to " kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man."

With their rules, someone is a winner (usually the one that made the rule), someone else is a loser. That is what made me interested in God's law, it is a WIN WIN for everyone. This is referring to the law that God wrote before sin was ever in this world, Not the laws that were written after because of sin in this world. Just imagine what a war would go like if all the soldiers did their own thing, or an orchestra or a sports team. I remember my son kicking at the soccer ball every chance he could, not to score points but to collect 25 cents. His grandfather told him that he would get 25 cents for every ball that he kicked. His team wasn't too happy that he did his own thing.

What's hurting our children is the fear of being massacred in school. Gay people don't go around murdering people with weapons of war. Remember the motto of our ULC? As far as being a hypocrite. There are layers . While I may sleep with my husband in private my affection and conversations are often shown or heard in public. This is not hypocrisy. It’s simply a sign of the fact we are together and you can see it however I don’t need to tell everyone I love him or about our private conversations that would be Wierd right? There are intimate details of a relationship and public ones. That prayer was public and it was an expression of my love and compassion for those who are upset and hurting. As for me, I am Bi and proud of it. I am also Pansexual - I can choose to love anyone, any gender, any skin color, any belief system, if I feel they are worthy of it. I simply pointed out two facts from two separate studies.
Those that further their education (and by this I mean university and beyond, not continuing after junior high school) are statistically less likely believe superstitions such as the Jewish Zombie and other forms of Mr. Magic. And those with degrees, especially in the sciences, have higher incomes than those that decided to exit public schooling when confronted by biology and first year algebra.
They are also more likely to be able to support their position and opinions. This as opposed to those that lack even the ability to use punctuation to break up their stream of consciousness blatherings into coherent forms known ad ‘sentences’.

God, with a capital "G" gave us free will. So he is not going to stop how a person behaves regardless if it goes against his teachings or not. I believe homosexuality is wrong. Two men cannot naturally create life/have a baby, two women cannot naturally create life/have a baby. It takes a man and a woman to natural create life/have a baby. This is why I believe homosexuality is wrong.
With that being said I do respect a persons choice to live there life the way they choose. So if someone is homosexual I will not get in there face or try to make them feel uncomfortable, but I will not support them or anything they are associated with.
Procreating is only one aspect of love. There are many ways to express love to one another, emotionally and physically. If you tell me there is only one right way to do it physically, then anything that a heterosexual couple does outside of that ONE way would be a sin. So, all you/us creative couples would be just as wrong, because it's not 'natural.'
Making a baby is one outcome and one reason on this earth to make love. Many heterosexual people make babies and never once make love, because they do not love one another.
I believe God finds greater joy in a gay couple making soulful love to one another, who genuinely love, honor and respect one another, than He/She/It does in a heterosexual couple having mechanical sex, who don't even really know or care for one another.
God is LOVE. We get so wrapped up in using our magnifying glasses to scrutinize what we think God means by what has been translated to us, rather than using our our hearts and souls to use REAL sense.
Parents are worried about their children being influenced. Why? They're afraid that ALL the evil gays are gonna turn their kids gay? Right. Because all the gay kids in the past were able to be indoctrinated into being straight. Right? Mm-hmm.... All those 'normal' commercials and 'normal', 'wholesome' TV shows they grew up with corrupted them into being straight. So, of course the straight ones will easily be corrupted into being gay if they for one second think it might be at all normal. Totally legit. 😣🤦🏼♀️
To give them a little grace, though, I was stuck in that fear at one point, because I was taught that, too. That fear that if you don't verbalize that it's wrong, then you don't stand for Jesus. And then you will burn in hell. And if you don't save others, then they will burn in hell. And good God, if your kids get snatched up into it, they will burn in hell! But that's all man-made fear. God is not fear. God is LOVE.
Life is so much better once you know that. You can stop trying to fix everyone and just freaking love them. Starting with yourself. 💜

There is more to human life than just procreating, procreating, procreating. Much, much more. Native American peoples gave homosexuals the title of "two-spirit" people and also gave them a high rank as healers, alchemists, wise counsellors, and warriors. recognizing them as especially spiritually and intellectually gifted. straining the resources? You do know you can place EVERY human being in the world in North America and the rest of the world would be empty right? so just how is this straining the resources? That would be about 2,000 people per square mile, roughly the same population density as the Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey, and less than the roughly 3,000 people per square mile in Bermuda. There is enough space in America for all the people in the world to live comfortably.
Yes, only a male and female can creat a life, and back when the Bible was first written, it was important to have children to help with family farms and shops. Nowadays, that is not necessary.
The 10 Commandments, the laws that the Bible say were written by God himself, does not mention this at all. In fact there is a lot of positives with the LGBTQ+ community. Since they, for the most part, cannot have children of their own this opens up the potential for loving homes for countless children that do not have that. Perhaps that is God’s plan.
