On Saturday, April 25th, a gunman charged through a security checkpoint at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Washington Hilton, armed with a shotgun, pistol, and multiple knives. The gunman, 31-year-old Cole Allen, documented his goal in a manifesto: Kill President Trump and other administration officials, who were in attendance at the event. Secret Service agents apprehended Allen alive as the president, the first lady, and members of the presidential cabinet were safely evacuated from the event.
It is the third attempt on Trump’s life since 2024.
While many are crediting Secret Service with saving the president’s life, some are positing another explanation: Divine providence.
The Hand of God?
Perhaps the most prominent individual to suggest that President Trump is repeatedly being saved directly by God is evangelist Franklin Graham, the son of renowned Southern Baptist minister Billy Graham and a longtime Trump ally, who took to X shortly after the incident to assert that the president is being spared by “the hand of God.”
Is President Trump being saved by God? Trump himself suggested as much after the 2024 attempt on his life in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a bullet grazed his ear, missing his head by an inch. "I believe my life was saved that day in Butler for a very good reason," Trump stated during a recent address to Congress. "I was saved by God to make America great again. I believe that."
It seems likely that this most recent attempt on his life will only embolden Trump’s belief that God is intervening to save his life - but do others believe that? Across social media, responses were mixed to Franklin Graham’s declaration that divine providence is responsible here.
Critical Response
Many online were critical of the idea that divine intervention had anything to do with Trump’s safety. “There were at least 42 assassination attempts of Hitler. God must have really loved that guy,” wrote one Reddit user.
Others took issue with the notion of God deciding who to save based on their character:

Even over on the r/Christianity subreddit, the response was muted. “Sure, I guess [God spared Trump], in the sense that God is sovereign,” wrote one user. “But that also means the hand of God also made me eat eggs and toast for breakfast this morning.”

Still, others said they agreed with Graham that Trump is being spared by divinity – with some even drawing favorable comparisons to heroic figures of the past often said to have providence on their side. “Like George Washington, Trump has God’s protection, it appears,” wrote one X user.
Supporters like Franklin Graham and even Donald Trump himself see a pattern of survival that points to divine protection, a sign that a higher power may be guiding events, intervening directly to save the president’s life.
Skeptics, meanwhile, argue that credit belongs to the people tasked with protecting the president – law enforcement, local security, and the FBI and Secret Service. They argue that a bullet grazing Trump’s ear isn’t providence… it's simply dumb luck.

I think you need to be aware of what you are really saying. If you say that God protected Trump, someone who wants a golden image/statue of himself while he lets children starve etc, then you are also saying that God allows, perhaps even helps, perpetrators to abuse others and murderers to kill. You are taking away the possibility that the personification of evil isn’t helping Trump, which may be far more likely, as he wants to fully take over other countries and possibly the world. It seems as if he is someone who wishes to annihilate freedom of speech, etc and all Hispanics, democrats, and people who disagree with him. all these so called assassination attempts are all fake - staged, if you will. In Butler, PA, Trump probably had a squib on him with fake blood in it. He snapped it by his ear to look bloody. My reasoning for this is that later that day Trump went golfing and had no bandage on his ear - and pics show it was entirely fine! CARTILAGE DOES NOT GROW BACK, especially that fast! Ergo, fake injury. Where the assassin laid in wait for him at the golf course, nothing there happened. The man was taken into custody. In this latest attempt, the assassin was on the wrong floor. He never got near the "intended target." All these attempts are to take our minds off the release of the Epstein files and other wrong doing Trump is committing. I'm sure there are people out there who want to kill him, but these attempts are false flags, designed only to make Trump look righteous. Oh, and by the way, tax on tips, overtime, and Social Security must have been a great help to many this last year, and we are not even two years into this administration yet. How amazing is that? I’m sure you are pleased. You must also be very pleased that this will have helped our elderly citizens, and those that are on minimal wages, or have a need to work overtime.
And thank goodness we don’t have to be concerned now about those very naughty religious folk in Iran being able to create a nuclear weapon. We can all breathe much easier now at night knowing we are safe, assuming that is, there are no more crimes involving deaths or injury from some of those very naughty illegal immigrants that haven’t been located yet. God's protection or staged is not the point. The reality is that the Secret Service, human beings, protected a room full of dignitaries and press, more human beings. If there was any Divine Intervention, it was through the men and women trained to protect our leaders, no matter anyone's thoughts or feelings about those leaders. No one was severely injured, the suspect was arrested, and the dinner continued. In the end, we are all human, and we do not all have to agree; a healthy debate is a good thing. No, the modern Left doesn’t have a monopoly on political violence, but it is far more inclined to use it, justify it, celebrate it, and rationalize it. And it’s only getting worse.

The third victim was identified as 74-year-old James Copenhaver, of Moon Township, PA. He is also listed in stable condition."

If God did keep Trump from being assassinated then He did it to protect the rest of us because only He knows how bad the consequences could have been. Martial Law? A Republican takeover? I agree totally with Colleen. This was either an exceptional job by the Secret Service or it was totally staged for the soundbite about "his" new ballroom. The fact that the gunman was able to get into the building with two firearms and several knives in the first place, considering how secure such events are, would have me considering that it was staged. The fact that a person with a firearm in direct sight of the President wasn't completely taken out speaks volumes. I hope he talks and/or the money trail leads us to who was behind this. The guy will still probably spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Yes, there was something definitely lacking with the security measures, and in my opinion was not a good choice to have so many Government leaders all in one place in an unsecured building like a Hotel. If just one person could get so far into that building, imagine how far a group of crazed jihadists could have got. SMH 🤷

There have now been three major attempts to murder the Republican president.
Not long ago, Charlie Kirk, one of the most popular conservative voices in the nation, was assassinated.
Before that, Brian Thompson, the CEO of the largest insurance company in the country, was murdered on the street.
Before that, a leftist showed up with a Glock, zip ties, and duct tape to assassinate a Supreme Court justice.
Before that, a Bernie Sanders fan attempted to eliminate the entire Republican House leadership on a baseball field in Alexandria, Virginia.
That’s not even to mention the “free Palestine” activists who show up at protests with firebombs or murder Israeli Embassy workers on the streets of Washington.
Or the fire-bombings of Tesla dealerships.
Or the antifa fire-bombings and attacks on police stations and Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities.
Or the attacks on pregnancy centers after the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision.
Or the Black Lives Matter riots, the most destructive in American history.
When a would-be terrorist shows up at the Capitol with Molotov cocktails to kill Republican officials, we barely even talk about it.
That’s a pattern. That’s a big problem.

The only other president assassinated in the 20th century, William McKinley, was killed by the bullets of radical leftist Leon Czolgosz.

The reality was an unprecedented rise in left-wing terrorism, led by groups such as the Weather Underground, which were setting off bombs at the Capitol, police stations, the Pentagon, and the offices of attorneys general. In an 18-month span between 1971 and 1972, there were 2,500 bombings in the United States by leftist groups.
There’s a clear moral and ideological continuum between those who rationalize the assassination of CEOs or the murder and rape of Jews by Palestinian terrorists or argue that burning down cities for social justice is understandable, and those who act on those ideas.
Our university system is teeming with detestable pseudointellectual extremists. Beloved liberal authors such as Ta-Nehisi Coates champion identitarianism and violent bigotry.
Every American institution run by leftists demonizes conservatives, the capitalistic system, the Constitution, and our history, treating all of them as immoral and existential threats to “democracy,” if not humankind’s survival.
College students and podcasts are indoctrinated into believing Republican presidents are no better than Hitler or that the “profit motive” is murdering the poor, when the opposite is true.
And if you accept the notion that conservatives are guilty of mass “social murder,” you would also believe it was completely ethical to steal or shut down a speech or stop traffic or glue yourself to a great work of art. Some, those who live in bubbles of radicalism, might even believe they have a moral imperative to do something more dramatic.
No, the modern Left doesn’t have a monopoly on political violence, but it is far more inclined to use it, justify it, celebrate it, and rationalize it. And it’s only getting worse.

It looks to me like neither side can claim the high road on political violence, as it has been perpetrated by both, but one thing the Republicans have is a POTUS in office who:
Incited an insurrection to stay in power after losing the 2020 election, and after reelected in 2024, he pardoned ALL of the insurrectionists, calling them "political prisoners" many of whom plead guilty because what they did was indefensible since it was all caught on tape by the news media. Many of those pardoned "model citizens" have been arrested again for other violent crimes.
Who threatened a soverign nation with anhilation if his demands weren't met.
Who authorized the "kidnapping" of the President of Venezuela in order to extradite him to the US rather than goinng through appropriate diplomatic and legal channels.
Who was convicted of 34 felonies includiing sexual assault and he has not spent a day in jail for it, nor has he paid the fine or damages the court required.
Is implicated in the human trafficing ring of Jeffrey Epstein.
Mocks and degrades any person who disagrees with him, calling them "horrible people," and other slurs.
Has fired most of his first administration staff, and close to half of those in his second administration. The revolving door of his Cabinet is worse than Nixon's (who would have been impeached if he hadn't resigned first.)
With leadership like this, it's no wonder everyone is on edge. Nobody can ever know or say when the next shoe is going to drop or what color it will be. The only thing that amazes me is that more people on this board haven't tossed their allegience to him away, unless they are afraid that will make them a target (yea, that's probably it. They saw what happened to those who publicly mocked or disparaged him, so they are doing it to stay safe. Can't say I blame them, but they need to grow a spine.

Suicide is an option for everyone, even Christians who believe it is a sin. They can still choose to end their life if they desire. You can say that Christianity acts as a deterrent but I'd argue that the lack of a belief in the afterlife equally acts as a deterrent. If I believe this is the only life I get, the only time I will exist, why would I choose to cut that one opportunity short?
