woman casting vote at ballot box
In his ideal world, Pastor Doug Wilson says women wouldn't be able to vote.

Sorry, women. You’ve probably enjoyed participating in democracy this last century, but an increasingly influential pastor and self-avowed Christian nationalist says it's time for that to change.

Doug Wilson, senior pastor of Christ Church in Idaho, wants to literally set society back 100 years and return to a time when women were the “chief executive of the home” rather than chief executives in the workforce. Women, he says, are vessels for fetuses and little else. Leave the big decisions, like who to vote for, to men.

Wilson wants to impose his beliefs not only on his congregation, but on the world. His ideas, once considered fringe, are gaining traction – and he’s suddenly finding fans in high places.

Alarming Views Going Mainstream

Over the last five decades, Pastor Doug Wilson has been quietly building a ministry empire, growing his reach from a single church in Moscow, Idaho, to a nationwide network of more than 150 churches.

Wilson had gained some notoriety from older televised debates with atheist activists like Christopher Hitchens, but his national profile really exploded last week when CNN aired an interview in which he was asked about some of his controversial beliefs, including that the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote, was "a bad idea."

The video went viral, and has been viewed millions of times across various platforms in just a few days.

In the interview, Wilson detailed his plans for creating a Christian world, and revealed that his recent church planting in Washington D.C. was an intentional effort to cozy up to the Trump Administration. But it was his beliefs on women which grabbed the most headlines.

Are Women More Than Uteruses?

“Women are the kind of people that people come out of,” Wilson said in the interview to CNN journalist Pamela Brown. “It doesn’t take any talent to simply reproduce biologically. The wife and mother, who is the chief executive of the home, is entrusted with three or four or five eternal souls.”

And that’s it. Women, Wilson seemingly believes, should strictly run the home and submit to their husbands.

Jared Longshore, a pastor at Wilson’s church who was also featured in the CNN segment, explains that he's also in favor of repealing the 19th Amendment.

“In my ideal society, we would vote as households,” says Toby Sumpter, another pastor in the church network. “And I would ordinarily be the one that would cast the vote, but I would cast the vote having discussed it with my household.”

Return to the Past?

This vision of the world is one where strict Christian theology is the law of the land. Women? Can’t vote. Homosexuality? Illegal. Non-Christians? Unable to hold office. Pastor Wilson has stated that “sodomy is worse than slavery,” and that slavery produced a “genuine affection between the races.”

Just a decade ago, these sorts of hardline beliefs borne from biblical literalism only existed on the fringes of society. Now they’re beginning to gain mainstream acceptance... including from one of the most powerful men in D.C.

Fans in High Places

These once-fringe beliefs were recently promoted by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who reposted the CNN video with the caption "All of Christ for All of Life."

Hegseth has spoken fondly of Wilson for years, and recently attended the opening of his new church in the capitol.

When reached by journalists for comment, a Pentagon spokesman explained that “the Secretary is a proud member of a church affiliated with the Congregation of Reformed Evangelical Churches, which was founded by Pastor Doug Wilson. The Secretary very much appreciates many of Mr. Wilson’s writings and teachings.”

Wilson’s popularity has skyrocketed in the past decade, thanks to high-profile fans like Hegseth and a changing religious ecosystem more sympathetic to his hardline views.

These developments are alarming advocates of secularism.

"It's not just they have these personal Christian beliefs about the role of women in the family. It's that they want to enforce those for everybody," stated Andrew Whitehead, an expert on Christian nationalism and a sociology professor at Indiana University Indianapolis. "It really does matter if the Secretary of Defense is retweeting a video with very particular views about whether women should be able to vote… That's not just a person's view. It's a person in a pretty broad position of power."

What is your reaction?

first of all,no one should vote,it is a waste of time.nothing has changed by voting for one side or the other(actually no difference in the sides).second, men weren't allowed to vote either for most of the country's history up until women were allowed to.voting "rights" were either by property owners(skin in the game) or paying a poll tax of some kind.the only reason that the rest were given the "right" to vote was to give people the illusion of choice, not actual choice.if anything, this country need to go back to that system.

Do any of you know how the bible was written? In chunks and many, many years AFTER Jebus supposedly died! And Paul was well known as a woman hater! The bible has no power over me. I am human, I am a thinking entity. I am also divorced and old and on my own. This misogynist would take away my right to vote? Hell no! A lot of you Christian men want me to be subject to a man? Hell no! Most of these rules were written so women would have no power. But women have ruled and successfully. Women were Viking Warriors and buried in massive graves to honor them. Women have ruled continents and stood in power over the lives of ordinary and powerful men. Maybe they didn't always rule well, but they ruled. They're called Queens. Get over yourselves, men. You came from a woman. Without women, you wouldn't be around. We are more than fetus carriers, though. We run businesses. We make policy. We sit in governmental positions (although most women now are Trumpists, so they don't count.) We write books. We make movies and TV shows. We have opinions that should be heard. We are NOT chattel to be owned, and any religion that says that we are needs to be destroyed.

Just because he and other men swish it around in there a few times like a nasal swab testing for Covid... (rational people, don't forget to update your vaccines... we're already in Covid season!)

Until then this guy might want to check out what he has to offer, whether it needs enhancing on some level, be it Viagra or a vacuum pump ... and if it's all that great, I want a pic...!

I have some profound news for you Ladies. First and foremost,...I...we... (men) love you! Thats why you get to vote now. Yes, that's right.... because WE said. Our rights are unalienable and are endowed upon us by our creator, right? So, men decided that includes you ladies. Men also decided that includes the slaves that only 2% of this nation ever "owned" (as if) and 98% did not. Yes, the evil patriarchy - more specifically the English-Speaking Christian Heterosexual Patriarchy. We are why you ladies get to vote...and talk about it the next day.
We are the same Patriarchy who fought the giants under Aurthur, Stopped the Roman Empire at the Rhine, followed Rome to Albion (England) and Erne (Ireland) and took it from them...TOOK., Defeated the Vikings who sought to eradicate Christianity under Alfred, Fought multiple crusades as a legitimate response to Islamic aggression INTO Europe under Richard, Defied the Catholic Church Government under Henry, Published the Bible for the masses under James, Ended Slavery as a Lawful Institution under George, Defeated the NAZI under Roosevelt and Churchill, Reestablished Isreal as a Nation by Queen Elizabeths hand, and informed the world that their Capital was now in Jerusalem under Donald John Trump. And that brother KNOWS how to shake a box ... does he not ladies ?!?
Yes, my Sisters ... EVERYTHING in Ephesians Chapter 6 Hates the Englishman... who IS the Canadian, Australian, and by-and-large the American (Daniel 7:4 ... go see ... July 4th ... wow!) Everything in Ephesians 6:12 seeks to UNDO the "Reasonable Expectation of Justice" brought to THIS world by Our Kingdom! But, WE love YOU Sister's and that's why you get to vote, etc. ... because WE will not permit evil men to take your rights away. Oh and they are just on the other side of that invisible line waiting for the day that they can take everything from you... But WHO is in the way? That brings me to my overall point. In order for Satan to have his way in this world as the Bible says that he will ...which is the rule of this world and the submission of Isreal ... he must move the English-Speaking Kingdoms out of the way. So, YOU sisters will do well to remember this: WE love YOU. We are the reason that you even get to speak in public, have the freedom to show your face, oh yeah...and vote, pfft...for whatever that's worth! So when you hear some smart-mouthed comment from some limp wristed academic type or some false and divisive argument from the waging tongues on TV News about the Christian Father and his CIS gender he/him pronouns, etc., ad nauseum, know that in the end YOU will choose a side....whether you like it or not, you will choose a man. OR, an Evil man will come and make the choice for you...

✦ The Lawless One’s Gospel of Silence ✦

    By Rev. JTSUNRISE

There is a stench in the pulpits of America. It is the rancid perfume of empire disguised as “biblical order.” And behind that stench is the orange lawless one—Trump—whose shadow still poisons church and state alike.

When pastors like Doug Wilson declare that women should not vote, they are not preaching the Gospel of Christ. They are parroting the doctrine of Trump: domination without service, cruelty without covenant, power without love.

🔥 Trump as the Lawless One

The Bible names him: the lawless one, the man of sin, the deceiver of nations. (2 Thessalonians 2:3). His fingerprints are everywhere: • He treats women as property, trophies, or threats. • He sells lies as if they were sacraments. • He enthroned himself in grievance and called it greatness.

This is not Christianity. This is Caesar worship. And pastors who echo it are not prophets—they are ventriloquist dummies for a bankrupt tyrant.

🩸 Household Theology = Plantation Theology

Let’s name their “household vote” scheme for what it is: plantation logic in Sunday clothes. The idea that one man should cast a single ballot “for his household” is not biblical, it is feudal. It is the theology of slave-owners, dusted off and rebranded as “family order.”

It denies the resurrection witness of Mary Magdalene. It denies the prophetic roar of Sojourner Truth. It denies the Spirit who poured fire on daughters at Pentecost. It is anti-Christ in a choir robe.

    ⚡ History’s Rebuke

History has already judged this nonsense: • Pharaoh silenced the Hebrew women, and the midwives disobeyed him. • Slaveholders silenced Black women, and Harriet Tubman crushed their silence with midnight fire. • Segregationists silenced voters, and Fannie Lou Hamer thundered back until her voice rattled the nation.

Every empire that silenced women collapsed. Every false preacher who preached subjugation ended up a footnote.

💀 The Cult of the Lawless One

Do not mistake it: these men are building a cult, not a church. The orange lawless one taught them well. He showed them that truth could be mocked, dignity dismantled, women debased. Now they carry his torch into their pulpits, draped in scripture, singing hymns to Baal.

Let me be clear: a church that silences women is not Christ’s church. It is Trump’s church. And Trump’s church is built on sand, rot, and rage.

    ✨ The Final Word

The Spirit will not be muzzled. The resurrection will not be rewritten. Women will not go back to silence. Their vote is not a privilege—it is covenant, bought with the blood of generations.

To every pastor still genuflecting before Trump’s golden calf, hear this rebuke: Your house will fall. Your gospel will wither. Your lawless king will be dust before the splendor of Christ.

Some of the comments here are almost unbearably amusing. The fact that males are pretending to be females and vica-versa is cause for alarm enough. The fact that females are completely out of control and disrespecting men is alarming. The fact that males are laying hands on females in a non corrective manner is alarming. But the fact that the bible is our blueprint to salvation in the afterlife is already set in stone.

Eph: 5:22-24 tells us "Wives, Obey your husbands as you Obey the Lord" (v22) and in (v23) "The husband is the head of the wife, just as Christ is ahead of the church people" (v24) "Wives should Obey their husbands in everything". These are just a couple versus/sentences dictating how God would have us lead our families.

Just as there is a chain of command in the military, so is there a chain of command at home and "heaven". All of you must remember that God gave us 10 commandments under Torah, all other laws are made by man and subject to overturn.

So my question to you is why should females have rights when they can't even obey god? I completely agree, females are much more than simple birthing vessels, but the reality is God placed man over female for a reason. Females are comforters, companions and many other things, but they are Not leaders, not in the eyes of man or God.

Remember that the bible tells us that woman committed the First act of Defiance against God (KJV) Gen: 3:6-12 and thus brought man to fall from Gods' grace with her.

    1. Matthew Mastrogiovanni's Avatar Matthew Mastrogiovanni

All Abrahamics treat women as property, with no rights, etc. and the "lamestream" media stays silent. ✡️ Rabbinic Judaism (commentaries on the Torah / Old Testament)

Property framing: The Talmud (Kiddushin 2a) explicitly states: “A woman is acquired in three ways… by money, contract, or intercourse” — codifying marriage as a form of legal acquisition by the husband.

Obedience: Rabbinic law gave fathers authority over daughters until marriage, and husbands over wives afterward. For example, the Mishnah (Ketubot) discusses a wife’s “duties” to her husband (household work, sexual obligations).

Nullifying vows (Numbers 30): The rabbis reinforced this, treating a father’s or husband’s power as binding, though sometimes limited by rabbinic courts.

Inheritance: Rabbinic interpretation upheld that daughters inherit only if there are no sons (Numbers 27:1–11, reinforced in Bava Batra 8:1).

✝️ Christianity (Church Fathers & later teachings)

Obedience: Early Church Fathers like Tertullian and Augustine argued that Genesis 3:16 showed divine order: women must be subject to men.

Household Codes (Ephesians 5:22–24, Colossians 3:18) were emphasized: wives commanded to “submit” to husbands. Augustine and later Aquinas argued this was part of natural law.

Canon Law (medieval period): Treated women as legally subordinate to fathers and husbands. For instance, women could not marry without a guardian’s consent.

Property model: While Christian theology softened the “property” language, in practice marriage contracts and dowries reinforced the economic control of men over women.

☪️ Islamic Tradition (Tafsir & Fiqh)

Qur’an 4:34 (obedience & discipline): Classical tafsir (commentary), e.g., by al-Tabari and Ibn Kathir, interpret “qawwamun” (maintainers) as men having authority over women. Most allowed for light physical discipline if wives were “rebellious.”

Qur’an 2:223 (wives as tilth): Interpreted as giving men sexual rights over their wives, though some commentators (like al-Razi) stressed this must be within marriage and respectful.

Inheritance laws (Qur’an 4:11): Islamic jurisprudence universally reinforced the rule that sons inherit double the share of daughters.

Marriage contracts: Fiqh generally treated marriage as a contract in which the wife is entitled to a mahr (bride-price) but obligated to sexual availability and obedience in return for maintenance.

      📌 Summary:

Rabbinic law codified women’s status as legal dependents and possessions.

Christian canon law & theology framed obedience as divinely mandated hierarchy.

Islamic jurisprudence institutionalized male authority over women in family law (marriage, divorce, inheritance).

None of my married Christian friends don't want women to vote. None of these men tell their woman how to vote that I'm aware of. Some definitely don't because they've made it vocal. You can lump me into that pile too. The only places I hear that sort of thing is from some hard lined guest someone dug up to put on display. I suppose to get left leaners into a panic and vote accordingly.

I did notice an interesting thing about women voting and such. I have three male associates who are conservative and are married to a liberal woman. Come voting time the woman makes it clear who the right candidates are and who she's voting for as the men set quite. Privately they've told me they cast no-votes in cases they just can't bring themselves to follow the wives marching orders. Biden/harris-Trump is a great example. It's a sad state to be in.

This is not a phenomenon and is handily explained in the Bible.

Left Ladies, please afford your man the right to vote his conscience as we men afford you to do the same. It's the right thing to do. To you men who've found themselves in this unfortunate predicament, you have my sympathy.

I agree with you SOJ (surprised as I am?). This is why each ballot is done behind a curtain and in private. If a man doesn't like who his wife is voting for, he has the ability and always should cancel her vote by a vote for the opponent/opposing view. How would she know anyway? He can always "plead the 5th" if she asks and he doesn't want to lie about it. A "no vote" only makes her vote count more. I have never asked either spouse who they voted for, but I was pretty sure I knew, anyway. We talked and argued politics frequently, but how we vote is a line we do not cross.

      1. ServantOfJudgement's Avatar ServantOfJudgement

        It's a loyalty issue Patricia

Certain men are very loyal to their wives. I'm one. I don't think they want to bring suffering or unhappiness to their wives. Or they don't want to be in opposition to their mate. Like teamwork, you don't want opposition in any team. Easier and better to take the no-vote on the chin. It's a long those lines I think but I'm not positive. Just thinking out loud. If my asks me something I will not lie, I just can't do it. Feels very wrong to lie to the one who's to trust you the most. She may not like the answer but it'll be the truth.

This is good. It will finally show how backwards certain sects of evangelical Christians are — working toward a country where women are considered no more than vessels. By saying, “It doesn’t take any talent to simply reproduce biologically. The wife and mother, who is the chief executive of the home,” this pastor makes it clear he sees women only in terms of what they can provide for men.

Where would our country be today if women refused to enter the workforce in World War II? Who would have built the equipment needed to win the war? Of course, people will say that this couldn’t happen here, but is that true?

The Supreme Court has already shown interest in reversing rights like in Lawrence v. Texas, which could make sodomy laws legal again. If that happens, what could come next? Will people like me be sent to camps? It may sound extreme, but less than a century ago, entire groups were targeted, rounded up, and jailed in Europe. It started with scapegoating and rhetoric similar to what we hear today.

With influential figures in our government supporting this pastor and others like him, and with Project 2025 advancing rapidly, the threat feels more real than ever. When leaders begin to treat women, non-Christians, people of color, LGBTQ individuals, and anyone outside their narrow worldview as less than equal, our rights are all at risk. History has shown us exactly where this kind of thinking leads, and it cannot be dismissed.

Where would men be without women? Nowhere, that's where. Where would women be without men? Well, we're finding out more now than ever, given the family breakup rates. Men can spark a human life, but they cannot produce it. Men's views of women and their role in the family desperately need updating in the 21st century. Same for women. When a woman can create a life with artificial insemination, men might then become the chattel, valuable only for their contribution to the final "product". I submit that both women and men are vital to the survival of the family, no matter which roles they play, and both contribute to the growth (or withering) of "immortal souls" in their children. The health or illness of a society leads back to both sexes, and their contributions to it, for good or ill. Time to lay claim to responsibility on both sides for the way our society is now. Time to do better - for everyone's sake.

I guess Pete Hegseth wants to go back to the 1940/50s. Let's see where that takes us:

No Civil Rights. Only white men could vote. No computers in every home. Phone service was charged by the minute and there were party lines where only one household in the "party" could use the phone at a time. No cell/smart phones. No labor rights (may have to go back even farther to get there). My mother (a widow at the time) had to pay for the construction for them to pave the street in front of our house, so there was no infrastructure that the public funds helped build. Only property owners could vote on bond items or any other items that used public funds. Distant transportation was generally by boat or train (that part doesn't bother me, because I refuse to fly anymore) because air travel hadn't been developed to a point of feasability yet. TV was local channels (no cable or streaming services). No central air conditioning only mold bearing window units that used water to help cool the air. Lead paint. Insulation using asbestos. Women's jobs were as secretaries, nurses, or teachers but only until they got married. Women couldn't own property, unless there was also a man as the primary owner (generally a husband or father). Beating a child was "discipline." Rape was always the woman's fault. Marital rape was an oxymoron. Homosexuality was illegal and, therefore, had to stay "in the closet." No protections for the disabled - most of them ended up institutionalized in horrific conditions. No minimum wage, you got paid what the owner thought he could get away with, and you were fired if you didn't work like you were in a sweatshop.

Yea, that is the "GREAT" in MAGA.

Must be nice to be able to make women slaves because of some words in a book. That would mean your mother was only a submissive breeder if she followed the same rules. And your daughters are basically sex slaves or they go to hell. You can have any father, but only one mother. Women are much more important than men for the species. So single moms and women should have no say in their governance? Or are those women just unregistered servants running loose in the streets? There's a saying only men use "free, white, and 21". Being a man in a misogynistic society already has it's perks, that doesn't mean you have to crush the spirit out of women to feed your ego. I was taught a real man honors women and accepts them as equals not a lesser caste. Only the weak and insecure feel the need to dominate others using some words in a book because they aren't strong or smart enough to to do it themselves.

Interestingly, there is a faction of left leaning individuals that don’t know what a woman is, and struggle to even describe what a woman is. I’m sure their god is having a hissy fit with this topic for not being more specific about gender. 🤭

Anyway, please don’t shoot the messenger, I’m just stating a fact.

Rev Mike. Are you also confused with what a woman is? It sounds like you are.

Maybe the right for women to vote should be taken away. Nobody knows what one is anyway. Well, some of us do but we're not very smart. It seems only smart and educated people don't know what a woman is.

Apparently one of our supreme Court Justices isn't able to answer that question Mathew. As we know, theses decisions are ultimately made by the supreme Court. If I had a pencil and paper I could draw a couple stick figures to help Justice Brown sort it all out.

        I hope that helps Matthew.

            1. Michael Hunt's Avatar Michael Hunt

It's a sorry day when a grown adult can't read a full article that actually defends Justice Brown Jackson: "Scientists, gender law scholars and philosophers of biology said Jackson's response was commendable, though perhaps misleading. It's useful, they say, that Jackson suggested science could help answer Blackburn's question, but they note that a competent biologist would not be able to offer a definitive answer either. Scientists agree there is no sufficient way to clearly define what makes someone a woman, and with billions of women on the planet, there is much variation."

It's also a sorry day when an adult can't accept how our understanding of the world changes over time because they rather be ignorant than continuing to seek knowledge and education.

            2. Ari Joseph Bertine's Avatar Ari Joseph Bertine

When I was five I confidently defined women as people who wear skirts. Some other five-year-olds would say "people with long hair" or "people who cook dinner". Five-year-olds generally define things by their limited life experience. Surprisingly, many adults do as well. This is not a productive or efficient way to define things.

That's where science comes in, digging at the root of standardization. And if what was found was a false root, things get redefined because science is about searching for accuracy, not about doubling down on an answer someone likes because it's simple and makes them feel more secure.

Our old, outdated textbooks gave us a simplified version of scientific understanding that had not been refined and was not finished, and that understanding has grown far beyond our grade-school place holder knowledge. What an adult does now is acknowledge that time and progress marches on, and set about catching up.

When did men, waving flags and bibles and armed to the teeth come to fear women so? Flocking together in macho paramilitary groups, masking their faces in public? Joining incel communities and blaming women for their lack of relationships? Trying to remake women into subservient slaves, or burn them at the stake?

Isn't it interesting how God's help to meet man's need is always on the chopping block. There is a reason she is named by God "HELPMEET". There is only one man to ware that title and that is Jesus the Christ. Should that not tell us that the thoughts of men should be tempered by women their counterparts and by Jesus Christ through the Holy Ghost? I believe so, God did not tell us what need he saw in man but He did provide his rescue. As a Christian I know that when God makes a way you take it, cling to it, value it, follow it, learn from it, teach it, testify to it, and honor it. What you don't do is try over and over again to slice your self off from it. That is pride, ego, which is Satan's way not God's Will.

I agree there is an imbalance in play. That said the ultra wealthy are buying more and more homes and property rendering it near impossible for home loans unless the government aids them and even then you end up with a shack.

I don't have a very good answer and I've read on several occasions there are some in Congress that want even illegal aliens to vote.

      1. Patricia Ann Gross's Avatar Patricia Ann Gross

SOJ, I'd like to know who those congress members are. I would suggest that there may be people in congress that might want to extend voting to permanent residents or those with valid visas and have work permits (and therefore contributing to the US financially through income taxes), but I doubt anyone suggests those here illegally to be granted that right. Unfortunately, "illegal" is automatically assumed anytime anyone mentions migrants, which unless you are 100 percent indigenous descent, we were all immigrants or descended from them.

Washington DC (model City for the nation) passed this law in 2022, effective in 2023. Illegals can and do vote in local elections in our model city right now.

All attempts to repeal by USA Congress have failed thus far.

          1. Michael Hunt's Avatar Michael Hunt

Non-Citizens can vote in local elections in DC if they've been a resident there for a certain amount of time. This way, local taxes and measures that directly affect the immigrant community there still have a voice. They are not voting in National elections. They're voting for school boards. It also looks like they would have to register as a voter and the requirements for doing so makes it appear very difficult for an undocumented immigrant to register.

A utility bill with your name and address on it.

That makes it incredibly easy for illegal aliens to vote Michael.
