The Art of Happiness: A Handbook for Living
$23.95

by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Howard C. Cutler, M.D.

322 Pages

"Whether one believes in religion or not, whether one believes in this religion or that religion, the very purpose of our life is happiness, the very motion of our life is towards happiness." - H.H. the Dalai Lama, from The Art of Happiness

So popular and so rarely understood, this Nobel Peace Prize winner and man of great inner peace brings to a general audience the key to a happy life. In collaboration with a Western psychiatrist, The Art of Happiness is the first inspirational book for a general audience by the Dalai Lama.

Through meditations, stories, and the meeting of Buddhism and psychology, the Dalai Lama shows us how to defeat day-to-day depression, anxiety, anger, jealousy, or just an ordinary bad mood. He discusses relationships, health, family, and work to show us how to ride through life's obstacles on a deep and abiding source of inner peace. Based on 2,500 years of Buddhist meditations mixed with a healthy dose of common sense, The Art of Happiness crosses the boundaries of all traditions to help readers with the difficulties common to all human beings. Tenzin Gyatso, His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama and winner of the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize, is recognized as a spiritual leader and peace statesman. His previous books include The Path to Tranquility, Wisdom of Forgiveness, The Art of Happiness, and Ethics for the New Millennium.

Howard C. Cutler, M.D., is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He first met the Dalai Lama in 1982 while visiting India on a research grant to study Tibetan medicine. Dr. Cutler maintains a private psychiatric practice in Phoenix.

This Book Changed My Life!

By Samuel Michael Brooks, Pittsburgh, PA

Having spent a lot of time with books on spirituality and faith, Ive never found a book more enlightening as this one. A collaboration of sorts between the Dalia Lama and author Howard Cutler, I love Cutler's style of writing. Im not sure there is another writer who could present the Dalai Lama's message as well as Cutler does here. The Art of Happiness is a great combination of the traditional Buddhist theories, while at the same time taking the time to incorporate scientific studies. I truly believe that everyone can relate to the teachings this book offers, regardless of their faith, age, or personal beliefs. I think Ive already read The Art of Happiness two or three times since first ordering it from the Universal Life Churchs bookstore. This is one of those books youll return to again and again in your life time. The Dalai Lama speaks of life as a true gift and shows how a happy life is possible despite all of the hardships we encounter. This book is perfect for any newly ordained minister.
