The mysterious monolith in Utah
The mysterious monolith is about 10-12 feet tall.

The Utah Department of Public Safety may have found proof that human evolution was meticulously guided by extraterrestrial forces from beyond the stars.

Or, at least, a pretty cool art project.

What did they find? Deep in the middle of the Utah desert, a helicopter spotted a mysterious, 12-foot monolith sticking out of the ground.

One can’t help but draw connections to the nearly identical imagery in the classic 1968 Stanley Kubrick film 2001: A Space Odyssey. And if it’s anything like the monolith in that film, there are some serious, earth-shattering implications.

A Very Mysterious Monolith

The discovery was made on November 18th, as Utah’s Department of Public Safety was conducting a routine count of bighorn sheep by helicopter.

Then they spotted it.

Pilot Bret Hutchings detailed the findings to a local NBC affiliate. “One of the biologists is the one who spotted it and we just happened to fly directly over the top of it. He was like, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa, turn around, turn around!’ And I was like, ‘what.’ And he’s like, ‘There’s this thing back there – we’ve got to go look at it!’”

And look they did, despite the monolith's eerie similarity to the monolith in Stanley Kubrick's classic 1968 film.

In 2001: A Space Odyssey, early hominids awaken to discover a monolith before them. The monolith seems to influence them, as they learn how to use bones as a weapon, and the famously abstract film implies that it was placed there by an alien lifeforce with the intention of guiding human evolution from prehistoric apes to a space-faring species.

Is this a case of life imitating art?

Out of This World Art

Naturally, a mysterious 12-foot monument in the middle of nowhere raised some big questions.

Like how it got there.

In fact, the area it was discovered in is so remote that officials aren’t even disclosing the exact location, out of fear that visitors would get lost. “It is in a very remote area and if individuals were to attempt to visit the area, there is a significant possibility they may become stranded and require rescue,” a statement read. They also said it looked planted, rather than dropped in. Meaning if it is of earthly origin, someone hauled it in through miles of unforgiving Utah desert.

Still, the individuals who found it believe it to be an art piece, an homage to 2001.

"I'm assuming it's some new wave artist or something or, you know, somebody that was a big ("2001: A Space Odyssey") fan," Hutchings said. And the Department of Public Safety even made light of the potentially outer space origin, reminding everyone that “it is illegal to install structures or art without authorization on federally managed public lands, no matter what planet you’re from.”

It’s a pretty convincing argument. Artists did it! After all, the American Southwest has a unique history with avant-garde art in remote locations. Take Robert Smithson’s Spiral Jetty, for example, located on the Northeastern shore of the Great Salt Lake. Or Michael Heizer’s Double Negative deep in the Nevada desert.

Even if it is merely terrestrial in origin, as logic would suggest, it remains a reminder of the weird and wonderful world we live in. That artists would haul in a 12-foot piece of metal, install it in the ground who-knows how long ago, and spark both international news coverage and some seriously big questions, is an impressive artistic feat.

Or, perhaps, that’s exactly what the government wants us to think.

What do you think? Art installation, or something a bit more… otherworldly?

UPDATE 12/04/2020:  The Utah monolith disappeared seemingly overnight a few days later, gone as quickly as it appeared. Similar monoliths have since popped up in Romania and California, deepening a mystery that has baffled public officials. So far, no one has come forward to claim credit for the trio of mysterious monoliths, terrestrial or otherwise.

UPDATE 12/08/2020: A group of California artists have claimed responsibility for the mysterious installation, calling it a piece of "guerrilla art." However, some uncertainty still remains – particularly because of the presence of remarkably similar monuments discovered elsewhere around the world.

Perhaps we should increase our mission priorities to the moon? There just might be a corresponding monolith there too! If so, let's just jump to the end instead of going through each and every step. Especially since we already know the ending.

We do already know the ending don't we?

Somebody call Dr. Floyd! And get those Russians on the line too.

I think Moulder and Scully should be called in to investigate this one. It might have been put there by those ancient aliens whose skeletons were found in that buried railroad freight car during the last episode of season 2.

      I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

I think it’s fairly obvious that most have come to the obvious conclusion that it’s a hoax, but......many of these same people believe an ass and a serpent (snake) spoke, a man walked on water, a man parted the Red Sea, a woman was turned to a pillar of salt, a virgin was impregnated by a deity and gave birth etc etc, all because it’s in an old book that they want to believe. All these things are just as ridiculous as the monolith planted by aliens found in Utah. There is no demonstrable evidence for any of these events. I wonder if all of these events had happened today, like the monolith, how many would believe them?

"All these planets are yours to do with as you please. Except Titan. You must never try to access this planet" Now lets get some monkeys out there and have them touch the thing and see what happens....or maybe we should go back to the dark side of the moon and see where that light is coming from

Oh I can see the great conspiracy theorists out there, from OANN and PARLR spinning all kinds of stories.1. It's a government tracking device that emits radiation to all Trumpsters, 2. a secret message from the underground aliens which are a part of a government deep state cover-up, or 3. maybe all that blood they claim Democrats are drinking for long life? Wait awhile, lets kick off our shoes, make some popcorn and wait for the Great SHTF they have been hawking for over 2 years. Much too funny, tin hat wearing folks who live in the world of OZ.

I just hope they leave it there, and turn it into a tourist attraction. That is just too awesome a thing to not be made into a local legend for its area. Hell put up a whole space/sci fi themed park out there and it might end up on the circuit folks do that include places like roswell and area 51

Do you not think this picture has an error? Look at the shadows.. one each for the object and the one human figure and two shadows for the foremost figure!

A lot of possibilities come to mind. Maybe Kubrick was the first person who discovered that monolith during a helicopter ride, which gave him the idea of putting a monolith in his movie. One good way to find out if it's from another planet is to chip a piece off of it, and have geologists study it to determine if it's elements came from this planet. I also wonder how many feet of it is below the ground, and what it might be attached to. It could be the top of an ancient antenna on top of an ancient spacecraft, buried the last time this planet shifted on it's axis, during what is called "The great flood". Who knows? Maybe it goes down much farther, and is a solar panel, currently in use by the Atlanteans or Lemureans, theorized to be living deep within the earth, in the hollow earth theory. Or on another level where the little green men live, who are occasionally seen, and thought to be extraterrestrials. I've given y'all a lot to think about. Maybe someone will even form an expedition party, and check it out.

And now it is gone! Perhaps to never be seen again. Another lost opportunity to connect with our Creator?

    • Or maybe -

It was aliens, and they had forgotten where they left it until we found it. Now that they know where they left it, they came and got it?

    -Or maybe -

It had fulfilled its mission and it was time to return home?

From studying auras......I have found extraterrestrials need a body! So if the Odyssey is like the movie in which it connected with the planet they were from.....then perhaps the aliens who were transparent at the time attached themselves to the two human auras or that amount of humans who were at the site. The only way to be sure the humans have not been possessed by aliens is to have their aura taken! I believe it would show up as a bluish light if they did attach to the soldiers bodies! Why else would the work of art be gone! The mission was completed and I don't think they were trying to invade the earth. Possibly lead us to the cure for Covid-19

It's probably only trick photography or a computer generated image, and doesn't really exist.

With enough publicity of those pictures I bet they could make a lot of money selling mini battery operated monoliths that light up, and maybe even speak. Then comes the book, and then the movie. It could even be the start of another religious cult, like they did with the Celestine Prophecy, etc..

Honestly I think it was something pretty mundane on closer inspection. If you look closely at several of the videos of it, you can see what look like 4 bolts on it, about the size of what might of been something like a plaque. I have seen similar free standing pillars and columns used at the entrance of for example the entry floor to large law firms to have the names of all past and current partners displayed.

My hunch is it was once in such a building, and that building was at some point cleaned out for a new business, and more than likely someone working in the clean up/renovation crew had the right kind of vehicle, saw this and thought oh man this would be way more funny than taking it to the scrap yard, and that is how it ended up out there.

Sad someone yanked it likely to sell on ebay for a few bills or to just scrap yard themselves. Id of at least taken it to keep in my yard if Id had the chance:(

  1. Carl Bernard Elfstrom's Avatar Carl Bernard Elfstrom

That sounds like a good idea, Ilmenheru. Then, maybe neighbors could even use it for a message board, or atleast gang members for posting graffiti. There should be one in every neighborhood. With the right kind of publicity that could make it a top seller, both to individuals and neighborhood associations, as well as maybe even to city governments.

Pranks to play on simple minds, and give cause for the intelligentsia to pontificate over. Or perhaps Demon and devil-possessed (of the fallen ones and their Nephilim children chained in the abyss) children of today working their evil intent on humanity. Who knows?!? (?) The monolith appears and disappears in the wink of an eye? Come on, pull my finger. Tell me that a supposed discovery.like this is NOT immediately swooped in on by the FED, perimetered off, and 24/7 guarded by state of the art technology. Maybe these monoliths do pop up from underground (like gophers), a work of powerful art created by the lizard people living in the underground changes of the earth. Poppycock!
