A barbed wire fence at the U.S. / Mexico border
The situation at the U.S. border with Mexico has caused a major debate about ethics and immigration in this country.

The conditions at the U.S.-Mexico border and the treatment of migrant families seeking to cross the border has sparked a wave of debate throughout the United States, and indeed, the world. We've had ministers writing in to share their thoughts on the conditions at the border, the rule of law, and what Jesus would think. Below are two guest sermons from our ministers with differing opinions on the border issue.

Border Conditions Would Appall and Disturb Jesus

A guest sermon by Faye Kirkpatrick

Imagine fatigued, dehydrated men stuffed in cells like slaves crammed shoulder to shoulder in the hull of the Amistad. Imagine tiny children, wide-eyed, confused, and afraid, forcefully separated from their parents--drinking out of toilets just to stay alive.

Now imagine the president of the United States of America, a country ostensibly founded on Christian values, lying through his teeth about the horrible conditions migrants in detention centers across the U.S. / Mexico border are living through.

And then try to imagine what Jesus might make of it all.

On July 1st, a group of Democratic congressmen and women toured border facilities in Clint and El Paso, Texas. Their findings were shocking and appalling. As a result, the light has been shed on the squalid conditions and the culture of violence and hatred within border protection agencies.

The Senate just approved a $4.6 billion measure to help fix these problems. But I feel it's too little too late.

Have we forgotten who we are? The New Testament is ripe with examples of Jesus welcoming the poor, prostitutes and other social outcasts into his fold. "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat," begins Matthew 25:35, "I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in."

In Luke 14:12-14, Jesus takes the concept of generosity a step further, insisting we should not waste our time inviting those who may repay the favor. "But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."

President Trump has promoted transactional immigration based solely on merit - a sort of what-can-you-do-for-me attitude towards those who flock to our borders. Ironically, under the president's proposed system, his own wife wouldn't be able to immigrate to America. Seen in this light, simply showing compassion for migrants who might one day better our country is not in itself piety. We must help those who desperately need it, period. We must strive to be a more compassionate, truly Christ-like country. And we must say no to family separation at the border, to indefinite detention, to abject cruelty. If Evangelicals want to put their money where their mouth is, they must reject their hatred and show compassion.

Because no human is illegal.

Immigrants Must Come Within Legal Channels - and There is Biblical Basis for That

A guest sermon by Josh Nguyen

I empathize strongly with the illegal immigrants at the border. I can only imagine the conditions that would force them to leave their homes and risk life and limb to travel, in some cases, hundreds of miles, just for a chance to enter the United States. But the fact remains that we are a nation of laws. Laws govern me, they govern you, and they must govern those at our border too.

It is simple: Illegal immigrants are not following the law. If you want to come to the United States, there are legal channels for doing so. I highly encourage anyone out there to legally immigrate to the United States. It's the greatest, freest, most beautiful country in the history of the world. But immigration to America must be legal. Immigrants cannot expect to illegally cross the border and face no consequences. In America, no one gets to skirt the law and there are no free passes.

But don't take my word for it. The Bible is full of verses about respecting the rule of law. Romans 13:1-2 says 'Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.'

1 Peter 2:13-14 says 'Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right.' Not only is immigrating legally the right thing to do- it shows the respect for authority and compliance with the law that God demands.

Despite how it's being framed, the tired, poor, and huddled masses are still more than welcome. America is a nation of immigrants, and we have always welcomed them with open arms. All we ask is that they begin their life in America as legal citizens.

Please get the legal facts correct. Pastor Josh Nguyen does not express the full extent of American immigration law. Seeking asylum in the United States is a 100% LEGAL process, regardless of how a person enters the United States. Immigrants seeking asylum are now being turned away at the border crossings for making a 100% LEGAL request for the asylum application. Immigrants making this request are being ILLEGALLY denied the application form. Many denied the LEGAL process, try to cross the border anyway out of desperation, including if they die in the process. Óscar Alberto Martínez Ramírez and his 23-month-old daughter, Valeria, who drowned tried to get the LEGAL application at the official border facility and were turned away. SHAME ON YOU for blaming them. If you are making an argument that immigrants should follow a legal process, then the United States government should follow the existing immigration laws and accept all applicants for asylum, which leads to a LEGAL process that includes a hearing for an immigration judge to decide if the asylum claim is valid. When arguing to follow laws, at least know what the existing laws are that you are discussing.

Where are your facts that asylum seekers are being turned away? Not everybody is a legitimate asylum seeker. Furthermore, they are supposed to seek asylum in Mexico BEFORE the United States. America has enough problems without trying to accommodate thousands of outsiders.

Every country has a process to protect itself against unforeseen threats economically or not. Jesus commanded us to render to Caesar those things that are Caesars and to God those that are His. God commands us to obey the laws of the land but it goes much deeper than that. Just YouTube terrorism in the UK and parts of England. We do need law and order and regulations on certain sects of the Islamic religion. Our constitution protects freedom of religion AS LONG AS IT IS NOT VIOLENT against other religions. That's what conservative Christianity is most concerned with. I have Islamic friends as well and they would back me too on this. God help all of us and everyone find peace and prosperity for all of your families!

Here’s one of your asylum seakers searching for the American dream.

Oh! Did I forget to mention he bought a child for $80 and claimed it was his, until a DNA check proved otherwise. What would he have done with the child if he had been successful? He would possibly have sold the child for more than he paid.

You won’t read or hear about this on CNN. They pick and choose news to suit their own political agenda.

Lionheart - now tell an uplifting story of a legitimate asylum seeker searching for the American dream. Or, is that too hard for your narrowmindedness to consider?

"Born in East L.A." is a fun propaganda movie to watch if you haven't seen it before. You can enjoy it, or get angry over it. If it's something you'd be angry over - just more evidence of your narrowmindedness. If you can actually enjoy it - you've hope of broadening yourself to see situations more fully. Not, that you won't come to your very same conclusions, but that it'll be from a far more intelligent perspective.

        1. Kim's Avatar Kim

There aren't legitimate asylum seekers searching for the American dream. A true asylum seeker is running FROM a country. Not looking for America. Dream or otherwise. Most coming to the southern border are carrying flags of the country they left. They have no intention of becoming an American. They are after handouts to send back to their relatives.

          1. Sheila's Avatar Sheila

Kim - The idiocy of your bias is showing:

You said, "There aren’t legitimate asylum seekers searching for the American dream" - Yeah, maybe. But highly unlikely since you're claiming an absolute.

You said, "A true asylum seeker is running FROM a country" Oh, so they DO exist? But magically there are NONE running from Canada, Mexico, Cuba, or some other nation where it is most convenient to run FROM a country to the United States - who then don't make the best of a bad situation and have an attitude of seeking the American Dream? Really? Yeah, that's absurdly false to state that NO legitimate asylum seekers are searching for the American dream - not even a maybe, it IS false. Less than a week ago a heard a story over NPR of a man who WAS specifically running FROM a country to the United States in search of the American dream, because that's the only way he could convince his wife to take a chance on it (it didn't work - but that was the intention).

You said, "Most coming to the southern border are carrying flags of the country they left." Yeah, sure - MAYBE. But, by your own admission, that is not ALL.

The partial US aid to Mexico for 2018-2019 was $290 million (https://explorer.usaid.gov/cd/MEX). Yet, you said, "They are after handouts to send back to their relatives." If by "handouts" you are correctly saying that they are working and making an income - then I'd much rather have people of Mexico working for their foreign aid than handing them the money. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/11/us/undocumented-immigrant-workers.html : "Most undocumented immigrants are in the labor force" & "Often, these are jobs their employers have trouble filling with American workers." & " 'We are here to do any work,' said Ms. Garcia, 39. 'There are no Americans in the fields' ” [Granted that she likely doesn't know that when white Americans (I'm specifically picking on white Americans) try to get a job in the field for the same pay as her - they are NOT hired - even IF he works just as well or better than her. But, in general I think that's an extremely small percentage of white Americans who'd do her job as well as her for the same pay. What's your ABSOLUTE answer on that since your such a brainiac that won't deal with "I think..." or "maybes"?]

You spew a lot of empty rhetoric.

          1. Sheila's Avatar Sheila

Lionheart - you ask, "I still haven’t seen CNN making any reference to the article I listed. Why do you think that is?" My guess would be because, "The majority of the children came to the U.S. as part of family units" according to https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7315781/CBP-posts-image-toddler-brought-border-migrant-falsely-claimed-father.html

Why do you think it is?

BTW, since: 1) "There is no one at CNN who has any integrity or any intelligence." & 2) "CNN is a collection of corrupt morons." https://www.paulcraigroberts.org/2017/12/10/cnn-exposed-propaganda-ministry-dnc-militarysecurity-complex/

CNN accurately reporting that, "The majority of the children came to the U.S. as part of family units" would just be happenstance of actually getting it right.

You know, kind of like your narrow-minded views with no intelligence behind them. If you'd expand your vision, you might just find yourself believing the same thing. But, you'd have some intelligence to back your opinions.

I've seen them going down the street getting $5 to paint the house number on the side of the street at each house. And making money doing it. Halloween on the border is a riot with all the mexicans bringing their kids across the border to collect candy. We used to get 300 trick or treaters. So, it isn't their fault for being creative. Many people keep a dog to protect their houses on the border. It is the law maker's fault in this country. Mexicans will steal you blind if you let them. I speak from living on the border in el Paso. I worked migrant labor in Wisconsin , California and Alaska. I lived, breathed, eat and worked with other legal migrant laborers. The illegal aliens working in my town now are a waste of time. I joined the Navy to defend out borders in 1968, and then found that the rich Republicans wanted illegals like the rich Republican in Iowa that hired the illegal who went out and raped and murdered the college girl last year. They also wanted me dead in Vietnam along with a lot of Vietnamese. I declined that. Rich Republicans like Donald Trump - who hires illegals on every job site he controls - don't care about us, they only want our money. We need secure borders, we don't need the kind of people who run away from problems at home to get a better deal here because a lot of us did not run away, we fixed the problems and paid the price for it. Illegals don't want to pay any price at home or here. Trump is a liar, but what he says about illegals is true.

Not the Jesus in the Bible it wouldn't. This same character advocated for the beating of slaves (Luke 12:47-48) and murdering non believers (Luke 19:27). Not to mention following all of the evil, immoral Old Laws (Matthew 5:18).

    Know your Bible!

    1. Dustin's Avatar Dustin

Don, you are not understanding what (Luke 12:47-48) is actually saying, Jesus is talking in parables which is often how he communicated in order to help the ones following understand what he was meaning. When Jesus was talking of the scripture he used he made a point that if one of the servants knew that his master was gone and started to beat the other servants while getting full of food and drinking a lot, the master of the serveant would show up unexpectly catching the serveant who got drunk and beat the other servants, judgement would come and that servant would suffer the consequences for taking advantage of the situation. The parable in its entirety is making a point.

Then you do it again in Luke 19:27 Jesus once again is speaking in parables, you have to start at Luke 19:11 and read to 27 you also have to look for the " and ' symbols in the sentence structure Jesus was not talking about murdering non bellievers. You did the same thing in Matthew 5:18, it is clear you are not a Christian or saved or you would under stand the word. The bible can not be read at just the surface the breath of the Bible is very deep, one paragraph can have ten different lesson, which can take years to learn all of them.

God warned about people like you because there are many that do what you are trying to do "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. -1Tim 4:3-4

Know your Bible! If you are not a follow of the cross then what you read in the bible is just words you won't understand.

The Southern Border security has been an topic since before President Eisenhower and there has been hot and cold rhetoric and action as to how to fix it. There has been laws concerning illegal border crossings since 1952, 8 U.S. Code § 1325. Improper entry by alien is the current one.

The difference between now and the previous 67 years is Trump. Prior to the 2016 election, every single Democrat was for border security (including a physical barrier, even voting for monies for it). But after the 2016 election the Democrats have been opposed to anything concerning a physical barrier because it was what Trump promised he would do. Even the media took up the cause and spun negative stories under a Never-Trumper banner.

The Democrat lead House of Representatives have purposefully ignored pleas for funding from Border Patrol and HHS to confront the dramatically overwhelming influx of illegal border crossing apprehensions for months to create a humanitarian crisis. Then use this manufactured crisis to demonize his presidency for political ends.

If the Democrats truly believed that 8 U.S. Code § 1325. Improper entry by alien is wrong they need to repeal or amend it,

The sin of Sodom was gross inhospitality. The Old Testament law commanded the hebrew nation to be kind to the alien in their midst. The Hebrew nation invaded other countries and took their land to use as their own. Jesus did not encourage rebellion against the hated Roman conqueror, which disappointed many who had been impressed by him as a teacher. He and Paul told Christian believers not to be in conflict with the ruling Romans because the kingdoms of this world are not as important as God's kingdom-- and at that time believers thought Christ would return and claim his own in their lifetime, or soon. The rule of law includes allowing people to seek asylum in the United States, and for their claims to be processed promptly and in an orderly manner. Our laws governing entry by immigrants do not include taking children from parents and keeping them in various facilities, including some that are inadequate and unhealthy, indefinitely. Applying the term "illegals" to asylum seekers and others who were turned away by closed ports of entry is a propaganda technique.

    1. Kim's Avatar Kim

there are flies in that pudding. Hebrew law is NOT United States Law. These aliens are not "in our midst". And, over 90% of those seeking asylum are liars who disappear into the country even after being turned down. I really like the hypocrites that say Jesus didn’t approve of the Romans telling people what to do (over taxing) and saying the people should give to the poor. Now these hypocrites want the government to take everybody’s money against their will (seriously over taxing) and give it to an ENDLESS number of people that are coming into the country illegally. Why should my money go to someone who knowingly breaks the law? There’s an illegal that comes into the hospital here for a week every month for emergency treatment. Her bill is over $100,000 every month. Each time she comes in she has forty family members visit her per day. Why don’t these family members pay for relatively cheap regular treatment to prevent her suffering and prevent these huge bills? Because to them, this emergency treatment is free! Don’t blame Trump for high medical bills and coverage! This lady has been coming in here every month for more than a decade. Blame this illegal and her family! She’s just one example of why illegals from all over the world need to be stopped. Jesus certainly wouldn’t approve of her, or her family taking advantage in a very negative sense.

There was a youtube.com video regarding Dr. Dobson going down as an independent viewer to actually see what was going on there. Chaos in a word. Adults, including the Gang 13 members that shouldn't be allowed to even sneeze o nthe border, are interpersed with people attempting to fee their homelands. Adults are stealing children, claiming that they are theirs just to come across into the United States and amidst all of this, people are coming in sick and diseased and dehydrated and starving, having walked hundreds of miles. The borders are so overwhelmed that they literally cannot handle it. They come in parties of 400 people or more. If even 1/10 of what this man has said is true, and I have no doubt that he isn't telling the truth on this one, then that is the reason why kids are people remanded to separate facilities. I agree that they need to have medical care; however, they should not be sent out for it, it should be provided at the stations. All of the gang members should be rounded up and sent back packing. Anybody who is a known felon, same thing. Anybody who thinks that they are going to get all of the rights of being a US citizen, same thing. We shouldn't be allowing people to vote, give them free housing, medical care and food when our own people are suffering. Does this seem cruel? Consider what Yeshua preached, that of unconditional love, but there are also plenty of Bible verses that teach that charity begins at home. In other words, our first priority is to the people who are hear legally. Those immigrants who made it into the country legally are just as angry as the citizens. Illegalls should not get social security as they never paid into the system. Likewise, they shouldn't get Medicare, for the same reason. It's cut and dried.
The USA has the Statue of Liberty in NY that says, "Give me your tired and poor...." Well, all of the immigrants used to come in through NYC or other major ports and they were kept there until it was determined that they were free of communicable diseases and that their papers were in order. People who were not nice people were summarily turned back. I don't understand, from this standpoint, why that it is such a big deal. From a position of Unconditional Love, it behoves us as people supposedly attuned into the IAM to want to help. The US seems to have taken on the responsibility of being the cops for the entire world. So why can't we just go in and make these countries safe so the citizens of those countries can go and live in peace. Why? Because they are overrun by gangs, drug dealers and all of the averice involved. There are too many officials high up that are making millions of dollars on the backs of people in this country because of illegal drugs and all the other assorted illegal activites. They even have their hands dirty with sex trafficky. In short, every sincle sin or bad things that humans do to each other, never mind all of the rest of the beings on this planet in the name of the almighty buck, keep getting overlooked because of the amount of corruption in this country. The conservatives want you to build a wall to keep out the riff-raff. It seems that they feel that this is the only way, but while people maybe streaming in faster than they can be processed down along TX, etc., they are coming in over the northern border through Canada because there has been an underground railroad in place for decates. Added to that, they come in on boats along with drugs,, etc. This country has become a cesspit.
The people on the other end of spectrum, the liberals want you to believe that ICE is deliverately breaking up families, isn't taking care of these people and want to give these illegals every right US citiziens enjoy. My question is why? I'll tell you why, Votes. they figure that sooner or later, these people will vote and they want to stay in office. California has set bad precedent after bad precedent. They continually laugh at the US Constitution (that's if even half of them know it). People don't go to church or whatever the way that they used to and it's more of a show than church. The airwaves are flooded with fake ministers, latest being Kimye Church. Those 2 are as much ministers of God as Satan is. It's a farce. So, how to fix it? What would Yeshua say about the whole thing. I am reminded of the story when he gets ticked off at the money lenders and all of the Sanhedrin caring more for money and making money than God. This is exactly the same problem.

You have people who are victims, but they are being victimized by their home countries and ineffective governments who refuse to crack down on all of the bad behavior, again probably because of graft, and then you have people on this side of the border doing the same thing. Obama created this mess and we, as a country, let him. If you didn't agree, you should have created a class action lawsuit against the government for doing exactly this. We had a Supreme Court Justice murdered, just like JFK and RFK for exactly the same reasons. Reagan was nearly killed, for the same reason. Trump waffles for the same reason.

As long as there are peole with a lot of money willing to pay handsomely for their candidates to win, people will suffer. It isn't right. It isn't fair and it certainly is against everything most religions promulgate. The only way that Yeshua's message can be heard is to shut down the borders and stop this influx. This country is in grave peril. There are too many gang members that need to be rounded up and shipped out. Farmers are looking for cheap labor because the government has made it next to impossible for regular farmers to survive, which is why farms are failing left, right and center. Kids don't want to continue working their butts off and for what? If you don't have enough acreage to be self-sufficient, then it doesn't work. If you have enough acreage, then you had best have a huge family to work it, but large families are far and few in between.
Around here, there are a lot of Amish people. While many of the farmers have 4 or more kids, the work is separated by the sexes, which is all well and good, but you see them in Sav-A-Lot, which caters to people not having a lot of money. Before everything became so expensive through price gouging and fixing, except for things like flour, sugar, cloth, etc, they didn't buy into the regular system. The whole purpose of them dressing the way they do, using horses, etc. and no electricity for the most part is so that they can remain apart and they follow Biblical teachings verbatim. In many ways, they live the way everybody did way back when.

I think we need to take a page out of their playbook. It's time that farmers take back there farms, the government go after these megaconglmerates that are raising havoc with everybody and do what they did to Ma Bell. Break them all up. A corporation is NOT a person and shouldn't be treated as one. That stupidity came about during Obama's reign of stupidity that so many people bought into.

This President seems to be all talk and no action. He wants to build a wall which will not keep the drugs out and as long as there are checkpoints along the southern border, there still will be problems. Shut it down until ICE and immigration can sort through everything and at least figure out what is what and whom is who. Take care of the people who are in holding properly, keep real familiies together and have this country's government speak with the "offending" countries governments to see if some sort of deal can be made to send the people back without them being in fear of their lives or sent to prison for wanting a better life.

The other thing is that the US Government needs to sue the State of California for all of it's nonsense as they have spit on the rest of us and the laws of the land. While states do have the right to make their own rules, it has to be under the context of US law. California has set a very poor precedent. Michigan and Minnesota have also set poor precedents allowing Sharia Muslim women to wear bourkas for their driver's licenses. A driver's license is a legal method of identification and as such, the person's face, hair, etc. has to be visible. Otherwise, it is illegal. So many poor precedents.

While it may seem that I am trampling on people's rights, I am not. Laws were made to protect everybody, not just the people who have money and who are in power. The laws were also made from a judeo-christian background, but the laws were also made in such a way that they are user friendly.

Every single LEGAL immigrant I've spoken to agrees: Illegally-here criminals should be deported. That's what they are - criminals. They are here illegally. They have broken laws. Why should they be exempt? That's a fine way to show respect for the country you claim to want to live in - breaking that country's laws from the very first and then demanding to be given all manner of taxpayer-funded free things, demanding to not be identified on the census, demanding to illegally vote for the president of that country (because they want more free things at the expense of those legally here). There are legal channels for coming here. No one complains that Canada has legal channels - and they are quite strict.

Additionally, there is the very valid concern about the human trafficking at the border, the drugs, the system that is overstrained already. It is very clear that a particular political party that at first protested a wall, first claimed there was no crisis at the border, shrieks that there must be no citizenship question on our own census, squeals that there must be no voter ID, and now moans for show at a fence (that actually overlooked an empty parking lot), shows pictures (from Obama's administration) that are purportedly of conditions currently, has an agenda.

They avoid mentioning the very real child trafficking issue, the human trafficking in general, they deliberately refuse to vote in support of aid to the detention centers, and regularly whip their supporters into a propaganda-fueled frenzy - to what end? Maybe it's because the only way they can win in an election is by having illegal criminals, beholden to them for taxpayer-funded freebies, vote for them. They are doing this at the expense of those HUMAN BEINGS to are being lured by them to illegally cross the border for the promise of a free life where they will be given aid that even our own citizens do not get.

I am so very sick of all the corrupt political shenanigans going on right now and there is NO party that can claim clean hands. We really need to wipe the slate clean, fire the lot of them and start fresh with those passing an IQ test, an ethics test and a test of the contents of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence. It should be a volunteer position with healthcare at the level that the poorest in our country receive. One should not be millions richer upon leaving the job than one came in with. There should be no political parties at all, those are anyway just different sides of the same dice.

Send all those whining for better conditions for illegals to those illegals' home countries and become aid workers there. Let them use their millions over there.

When our government makes laws that criminalizes giving aid to our own poor and homeless, but provides a free ride to those coming in illegally, there is a very real problem here.

I think that a wall with a sign saying "Closed for illegal entry, use legal channels, we're already at capacity and then some, and need to fix our infrastructure and be able to feed our own people before we take on others." is pretty reasonable.

  1. Tom Thackrey's Avatar Tom Thackrey

People should follow the legal processes to come to the USA. However, our processes are designed to keep non-whites out. That is wrong. Plus, the US has created a lot of the turmoil, especially in Central and South America, that causes people to want to flee. We should accept more asylum seekers and refugees from conflict.

The separation of families to discourage illegal immigration is immoral. The conditions (as reported) in the camps is barbaric. The denial of constitutional rights to the detainees is wrong. All people should be treated with compassion and respect. Once the government takes someone into its custody, the government is responsible for that person's health and well being. Releasing people to responsible sponsors would cost a lot less and be far more humane.

What are we afraid of? Gang members and drugs don't seem to have any trouble getting in. It's the families escaping the gangs, warlords and fighting that we should worry about.

If we were just talking about people who are trying to escape a bad situation, I could understand, but there are too many independent accounts that bad people who are gang members, criminals and other undesirable people attempting to get into the country illegally. There have been too many accounts of children being stolen from their parents by these unscrupulous people who are also sexually abusing them. The amount of people who are trying to get into the country is overwhelming. We can't take care of ourselves, never mind the hordes of people who are attempting to get into the country anyway that they come. Furthermore, Obama set a terrible precedent by making deals with the various states to give them money to house these people at the expense of our own people who are deserving of public housing and the waits are long. It isn't fair or reasonable to put these people ahead of them and then give them free everything. They haven't paid into social security and Congress has raided what didn't belong to them. It belongs to the citizens who paid into the system. Same with Medicare. There are states like CA that should be sanctioned by the government for allowing illegal immigrants to vote. This is illegal in this country.. I feel for the people who are truly trying to get into the country, but if the people who are trying to protect the country are overwhelmed, then the president is correct. I believe that there are too many people who are on the dole from drugs and the cartels and these are the people who are advocating for this cluster to continue. This is a site and forum where people who practice their various religious beliefs and it's important that they continue to do so. Rev Dobson, PhD made an independent visit to actually see first hand what is really going on. He stated that it was hell on earth. The people who are already in the country need to be vetted and they need background checks as well as quarantine to make sure that they don't spread diseases into the country. That was the purpose of Ellis Island in NY harbor. We don't need a bunch of deadbeats who will not contribute to the country. When you see abusive crazy activists changing our flag to that of Mexico, I have a problem with that. We have a presence all over the world. It seems that if we would best help these people, then they should be returned to their countries and the military sent there to as Trump calls it ,"clear out the swamp." The highest estimate of 12 million illegal immigrants is between 3-4% of the American population.

Should they be just ushered in free to do what they can? No. But I'm not wasting my time with dramatic solutions to please the venom of certain portions of the voting population. Certainly not as an ordained minister. I would rather look for a solution that incorporates a sense of peace, compassion and kindness for the immigrants and the people potentially affected by them.

so why is gun control an issue here when the United States has the most guns and the lowest percentage of shootings to number of gun owners in the world. And...…...Mexico has the highest firearms homicide rate, with a rate about 3 times higher than the US rate. The facts are that South Americans are far more likely to be drug dealers and killers than the average USA person. It is sheer lunacy to welcome such people who flagrantly disregard our sovereignty and law from the get go.

There has been an immigration crisis for many years even before Obama. Obama removed over 2 million illegal aliens during his Presidency. President Trump is working on maintaining that same level of effort during his Presidency. I think you will find ALL news media has its own bias, just like you have your bias against Fox News.

What we do know is, there is a legal process about coming into our home. We also know that there are many that have come into our home without being invited, and some have committed grievous crimes, which wouldn't have happened if they hadn't broken the law getting into our home. There will always be crime, even by our own citizens, we need to mitigate these crimes by those who shouldn't be here.

Is a minister this is very simple! And it doesn't matter what your faith is, what you call your God or Gods, or what the doctrine that was inserted, by the hand of man, into your religious text states.

All great religious teachers and Prophets have taught the same basic principles... 1. Love God 2. Love yourself 3. Love everyone else 4. Nothing else is required!

And if you are separating families and locking them into cages you are doing none of the above!

Law and order is why I choose to be a Christian. There are the Law's of God which are readily found in the Bible, and there are law's of governments that are more complicated, but, generally, are in the best interest of the citizens of the governed. We (USA) have a legal process for immigration and quotas for immigration, set by Congress. We have a quota system for agricultural worker's work permits.

"Romans 13:1-2 says: "Obey the government, for God is the One who has put it there. There is no government anywhere that God has not placed in power. So those who refuse to obey the law of the land are refusing to obey God, and punishment will follow.""

So, what you're saying is that governments ruled by despotic dictators and/or corrupt criminals should be accepted and obeyed because they are put in place by God. Really? Why exactly would God do this? The vast majority of these governments are third world, non-white countries. Is God punishing the non-whites by installing these types of government? Please explain.

It is very disheartening to read the replies of so many under the umbrella of the ULC attacking each other, name calling, etc. We should all step back and ask ourselves "What entity is watching all of this and enjoying it immensely? What entity is fomented this discord and celebrates this disunity?" We need to look into our own hearts honestly and without bias to get this answer. As pastors (which we are supposed to be by nature of the title "clergy" and "minister") it is our mandate to sow seeds of love, unity, peace, understanding, honesty, and so on.
It really hurts to see this horrible discord.

As an FYI, when I went through the immigration process, along with my family, I wasn't asked what color my skin was. I was however asked, and had to show proof of:

    1. Do I have a job to go to?
    2. What are my academic qualifications?
    3. Have I passed the the necessary health requirements?
    4. Do I have any diseases?
    5. Can I speak and read English?
    6. What is my financial situation.
    7. Can I support myself and family financially.
    8. Do I have a criminal history, and if so, what is it?
    9. Do I have a sponsor currently living in the US to fall back on should it be necessary.
    10. What are my plans for living accommodation?
    11. What value do I bring to this country if my applications is successful.

Those who break into our country bypass all of these requirements and can become a burden/strain on our resources.

While I was researching American History for the required test before being granted citizenship I would ask colleagues questions about US history prior to my taking the test. I was amazed how many could not answer some of the questions. Bottom line: Many US citizens would fail the test to become a citizen.

"Romans 3:31 - Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law."

The laws regarding immigration are in place and have been for a long time. For many years and administrations, the opportunity has come and gone for the laws to be updated to meet the needs of the current political climate. But, laws have not really been changed but requested to be bent, forgotten, broken and so on. We can't say, let us forget the law because it does not make me feel good. Is it our fault a country is corrupt? drug ridden? Should we fix the problem or let their government fix the problem and all the while we, the US, are supposed to cough up the money to take care of their people? I don't think so. Their countries should be responsible for their people and if someone wants to come to our country they should follow the laws and do it the right way.

If we want to allow people into this country without any rules, is it a christian act? Or should we say, to break the laws of man is wrong and thus enforcing them is not being a christian? I say, if the laws are made and in place, they should be followed and enforced by all mean necessary.

These new waves of immigrants, indigenous peoples, speaking indigenous languages from all areas of the Americas: this is a surprise?

After decades of the U.S.A. meddling in Central American politics, eroding democratic governments in favor of dictatorships aligned with US Corporations seeking to seize control of these peoples' resources to the point where the is nothing left for them...is there any wonder why they come here? Especially after their US sponsored governments have failed and they have no where else to turn?

"In America no one gets to skirt the law". You are kidding me, right? Presidents skirt them, tax evaders skirt them, lawyers skirt them, government officials Federal, State, Local skirt them. You do listen to the news I take it. Police skirt them. Your neighbor skirts them as do I, you, people you drive by... laws are broken without awareness, prosecution, or conviction every single second of the day. Some of the laws being skirted are felonies and others are misdemeanors. Did you know illegal immigration is a misdemeanor? Yet... of all the examples of laws being skirted apparently the most important one facing us is the presence of foreign folks (not white, non-english speaking) who crossed the border without inspection which is a misdemeanor. I'm struggling to see that this is the most important law enforcement issue we have in the US requiring billions of dollars, shifting of military personnel, thousands of people (who we pay)... this is the thing that, if corrected, will change our lives for the better in a significant & meaningful way to the majority of Americans? Nothing comes to mind that is more important than increasing the pursuit of these people and making it more difficult to legally enter at the same time? You, sir, are a coward to have written what you wrote.

    1. Kim's Avatar Kim

Brian honey.......Its about security and national sovereignty. Breaking is NOT "skirting". When caught, even misdemeanors are prosecuted. You know that as well as I do. It isn't an excuse to allow our country to be invaded. When cockroaches invade the house, bring out the bug spray.

That 100,000 people coming to Israel would be seen as an invasion of his land and they should be turn away. How do you feed, housed and put shoes on such a number. A couple of years ago a local group had a discussion about letting 80,000 Muslims Syrians come to the US without checks. Then you have an equal number from Africa who also want to come to the US. To denied either group would be called racist.Trump was called just that. America is the dumping grounds of other nations who want to get rid of people who can done harm to its citizens. My father once said that his grandfather escape to the US on a boat one step ahead of a rope. Very likely many who voice their opinions here ancestors also had that narrow escape.

Entering the USA illegally is a crime. If we are all about 'right vs wrong" why do many think that allowing people to cross our borders and violate our laws to illegally enter our country is okay. At the moment that they step over the the border they become criminals, regardless of their age or sex they are criminals. There is a legal process to come to America...I doubt that many asylum claims by immigrants from Mexico or South American countries are actually valid. "To establish eligibility for asylum or refugee status, you must prove you are either the victim of past persecution or you have a well-founded fear of future persecution. In the case of past persecution, you must prove that you were persecuted in your home country or last country of residence." We have more than our quota of criminals already we don't need any more.

There still are genuine Christians!! EXCERPT: The largest U.S. Lutheran denomination announced this week that it would become a "sanctuary church." The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) said in a statement Wednesday that it is "committed to work toward just and humane policies affecting migrants in and outside the U.S." The ELCA is the first North American denomination to become a sanctuary church body, according to the statement. According to CNN, besides sheltering undocumented immigrants, the church will also respond to raids, fight deportation cases and give "radical hospitality" to immigrants. The ELCA will also work on resources for the denomination's more than 9,000 congregations "to help them explore and develop sanctuary ministries," the news network reported, citing church officials. “It just keeps getting worse and worse in terms of unaccompanied children, separated families, detention centers that are just horrific, and so what we wanted to say as a church body, as the Lutheran church, we wanted to now act with our feet and take action,” Evelyn Soto Straw, director of unit operations and programs for the ELCA’s Domestic Mission, told Religion News Service. ELCA's presiding bishop, the Rev. Elizabeth Eaton, on Wednesday participated in a march and prayer vigil at the Milwaukee Immigration and Customs Enforcement office.

I feel that aiding people who are in tough situations is admirable; however, charity begins at home and there are too many people who are falling through the cracks now and these bozos want to add to the problem rather than take care of business at home first. The truth of the matter is that many churches are closing because people aren't going to church anymore. Parents are not taking their kids to Sunday School and certainly not attending church themselves. Do they really think that they will get more members and money this way?

In China to load a cargo ship it takes 10 people. In the US that number is still there but it seems that dozens of people stream from that cargo ship many from the cargo containers that are on the deck. ICE did a count of just one cargo ship and 300 people file into the US all having proper IDs. Not to say those from the other side of the US-Mexican border do not have the same right to enter the US, but since they do not have the proper IDs they are just out of luck.

These articles are becoming more and more liberal propaganda. First, you can thank Obama for the cells and for the overflow of illegals coming into the country. Second, for all the people yelling and screaming about these conditions, I have yet to see 1 of them volunteering money, shelter or any type assistance in helping them. Nobody asked them to come, except Obama making promises in order to get a vote. It's sad the situation they have placed themselves it, but the bottomline, they placed themselves and risked their childrens lives for it. We can't take everyone because the master mind who create a value on the dollar bill doesn't allow us to do that. Money makes the world go around whether you like it or not, so perhaps the people you need to protest to are the governments of the countries that allow their countries to get so bad. Just like the good book say's, you can give a man a fish for a day or teach him how to fish and he will eat for a lifetime. But until you give up your cell phones, bank accounts , cars and homes to help these people out, all it is talk and nothing to back it up with...
