Jesus in a nativity cage

“People think children in diapers getting tear-gassed is OK, but this Nativity scene is totally sacrilegious?” asks pastor Steve Josoma.

This Christmas, a church in Massachusetts is not just displaying baby Jesus – they’re locking him up border patrol-style.

Leaders at the Roman Catholic St. Susanna Parish have created a nativity scene featuring baby Jesus separated from his adoring parents by a black metal cage. They’re hoping the unique design will shed some Christian light on America’s controversial policy of child separation at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Conservative religious groups soon took issue with the display, arguing it was an unfair parallel to draw and an affront to the spirit of Christmas. But parish priest Steven Josoma was unapologetic in defending the decision. “People think children in diapers getting tear-gassed is OK, but this [Nativity scene] is totally sacrilegious? All we’re trying to do is put the two together,” he said. “What you do to somebody else is what you do to Christ. You can’t separate the two.”

Deeply disturbed by child separations at the border, Jomosa explained to reporters that they wanted to do a different take on the classic Nativity scene and “put a mirror image of the world into the stable.”

Critics Lash Out

Church leaders say their alternative Nativity scene is more an “affirmation of gospel values” than an attack on President Trump. But not everyone sees it that way – word of the imprisoned baby Jesus spread nationally when it was featured on a popular Fox News program hosted by Sean Hannity. He notified his followers on Twitter about the segment using the headline “CHRISTMAS IS UNDER SIEGE.”

Sean Hannity Tweet

The strong wording led some to mock Hannity’s sensationalism:

Hannity eventually deleted the tweet, but the segment still aired on Fox, where it was watched by millions of people. Apparently, Hannity’s viewers were equally alarmed by the decision to ‘Lock Him Up,’ as St. Susanna Parish was soon flooded with phone calls from around the country accusing the church of committing blasphemy. Two parishioners even announced that they were leaving the parish because of the controversy.

Baby Jesus in a cageImpossible to Ignore

Josoma believes the classic Nativity image demonstrates how people from different countries and social classes can come together. This year’s unique depiction – coupled with a blue banner that reads “Peace on Earth?” – is meant to showcase what happens when people find ways to build walls between each other.

And while Josoma agrees cages and walls are out of place in the Nativity scene, including them was precisely the point. It’s easy to ignore what’s going on hundreds of miles away to people you don’t know, he notes. It’s much harder when the separation policy is applied to a figure familiar to everyone: Jesus.

LOCK HIM UP! LOCK HIM UP! LOCK HIM UP!

  2. Bartonville Simpson says:

    How incredibly insulting!

    1. Don says:

Insulting to whom? Jesus doesn’t care.

  3. Lionheart says:

Did anyone else notice that it was a baby doll, or a sculpture of a baby, in the cage? It wasn’t a real human being!

    1. Matt Geer says:

right-where is the same level of outrage on the issue it was bringing awareness to?!don’t like the display?then stop family detention, don’t whine that its not the ”white christmas” you want.

      1. Eileen says:

        Yes! Excellent point!

      2. Elizabeth Maldonado says:

Just as I said. That Hannity is the very same person needs to watch out before he speaks. He is not a journalist. His opinion is base in ignorance and bigotry. If he believes in Jesus, hey he might be one of those in the Caravan. It is call a process. They asylum seekers if they do not qualify sent them back. Re-inforce the boarders create more jobs training man made boarder patrols. Instead of miles and miles of useless walls. It just as indication of Nationalist. It did not work for The Berlin Wall in Germany as well as for the Great Wall of China it was just the isolation of that country for years. It is a waste of money.

        1. Jeff says:

Thank you, Elizabeth Maldonado! Well put. I just can’t understand how people aren’t outraged at the treatment of these immigrants, especially the children. The wall is certainly a terrible, worthless idea. Also, you were way to kind to Hannity, he deserves much, much worse!

          1. Don says:

“I just can’t understand how people aren’t outraged at the treatment of these immigrants, especially the children.”

We ARE outraged! Outraged that so-called “loving” parents would put their own children through this horrible abuse. Even tossing them over walls!

Try taking your young (8 or under) child for a trek through a thousand miles of open desert and/or throwing them over a wall – when the police catch you, you will be charged with child abuse and…*gasp* separated from your child!

Why are you not outraged by this horrible abuse that has killed at least two so far?

  4. William Waugh says:

Mister Gorbachov, tear down that wall. Mister Trump,……..hahahahahahaha!!!

    1. John Owens says:

Funny. The Berlin Wall was to keep people IN.

      1. Kat says:

Walls can be used for both at any time especially with armed militia standing by.

  5. Robert French says:

No way you spin this can make it right. Shame on that church.

    1. Maiane Maine santos says:

Maybe your right, but what about the disco church that had dad taking a selfie of the candy cane kid and mother dropping a peace sign with a Starbucks cup, the fucking morons who think this crap up should be made to explain just why they are making things easier and easier for zealots to go on candy cane witch hunts.

      1. Jeff says:

So, Mr. French, I then assume that you support the horrible treatment that these children are receiving. I tip my hat to that church for having the guts to do what is right. America is better than that.

        1. Don says:

“the horrible treatment that these children are receiving”

Once AGAIN ignoring the murderous abuse heaped on these poor children by THEIR OWN PARENTS.

Your hypocrisy is shameful. You would be calling for prison terms for white parents who did this to their kids.

    2. Reverend Krystina S. says:

Mr. French, if you worship Jesus, did you not realize He was a refugee? This is entirely appropriate to the Life and the Teachings of Christ. Or do you not understand the Life and the Meaning behind the One you follow?? Hypocrite much?

      1. John Owens says:

Krystina, please explain how Jesus was a refugee during His birth, and then how the false story of the cage connects to that.

        1. The Rev. Robert Barker says:

John Boy: According to Matthew 2:13–23 Joseph and Mary escaped from King Herod, who sought to kill Jesus, and fled as refugees and asylum seekers to Egypt where they hid out until Joseph was told by God it was safe to return to their home city of Nazareth.

          1. Lorraine McDade says:

The problems seem to be a failure in distinguishing between legal and illegal immigration, the definition of a refugee, understanding Romans chapter 13 and understanding what the separation of church and state means. Jesus was far from what equates to an illegal immigrant or refugee. He moved from one region of the Roman Empire to another does not equate to the act of illegal immigration or refugee.
Having to separate children from the parents is because parents are sent to federal court under the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service and then placed in a detention center. In turn, their children, cannot be housed in detention centers for adults. All unauthorized immigrants who cross the U.S. border are sent to federal prosecutors for criminal prosecution. These laws were created by the authorities God put in place. Follow the laws and separation will not happen. Anyone assisting with those who enter the USA illegally are going against God.

          2. Conrad says:

            Process Refugees deport illegal aliens!

          3. Matt Geer says:

thank you Rev. I wish more Christians would read the bible instead of worshiping trump.

          4. John Owens says:

Bobby boy, an ANGEL sent them to Egypt, NOT during the Nativity, two years after, when the Magi arrived, and God sent later them home from Egypt. The people sneaking into the US are not hiding from Herod, and they are not sent by angels, and they have no intention of going home. It is really funny when you socialist carpet-baggers try to preach scripture. You just make yourself look silly because your knowledge is so shallow and peripheral.

        2. Ed Moriarty says:

His family was forced, against their will,to leave their home and return to the place of their birth. Sounds like refugees to me .

          1. John Owens says:

It had nothing to do with the NATIVITY, but the arrival of the Magi, a couple years later.

        3. Penny Matheson says:

After his birth, they had to flee the country to save him from the murders of baby boys, ordered by King Herod.
Is that not being a refuge?

          1. John Owens says:

It had nothing to do with the NATIVITY.

        4. Hoss says:

To begin with ; there was one reverent person who walked this earth, and your not him. 2. It isn’t biblical for a female to Shepard a church. So your opinion isn’t necessarily pertinent.
I’m not trying to be mean just stating facts.

          1. The Rev. Brother Robert Barker says:

Hoss: T/he bible is NOT the final authority. It may be yours but it’s not everyone else’s. The bible is merely a human book and not infallible, inerrant.

          2. Don says:

Since YOU’RE just stating facts, how about the fact that the Bible was written by Stone Age sheepherders who didn’t know where the Sun went at night?
            Just another fact for you.

      2. Wayne Petty says:

Rev. Krystina, have you actually READ the BIBLE ? See the comments below.

  6. Bob says:

Later they crucify him. Nail him on a cross and kill him. Christians are complicated. Pass the honey baked ham…

    1. John Owens says:

…and bless it, saying, ” Oh Lord, bless this swine’s flesh, which You commanded us not to eat…”

  7. Minister Post says:

It’s a good thing the baby in diapers and the mother were not at the Russian or Chinese borders. They shoot 1st and ask questions later . So please don’t use what’s going on at our borders. They actually used women and children as human shields to get at our border agents. Jesus was in a manger so yes, the sculpture is in very poor taste

    1. Reverend Krystina S. says:

Min. Post: Your, ahem, post, is somewhat disjointed. WELL. First we seem to start in the present day. “They” are the Russians and Chinese, or the people on the other side of their borders? HMMM. The baby in diapers, if you mean The Baby Jesus, was in a land beset by war, turmoil, colonization, and despotism. I think there was plenty of killing in the ancient Holy Land–as there still is today. So. Why NOT “use” what is going on at “our” borders? This Land Is My Land… My Country, My Elected Officials, My SHAME. “They” is in the present time, on our Southern border with Mexico?? “They” are, presumably, non-women and non-children “getting at” our border agents?? WHAAAAT? Are they using attack-women and attack-children? Hmmmm. Back to the past, Jesus was in a manger, ERGO “the sculpture is in very poor taste.” Hm. Do you mean the one of the “baby in diapers” or “the mother” or the presumed Stepfather, or the piper(presumed shepherd) or his presumed sheep (plural)??? I think that each sculpture is very artistic. Oh. You don’t like the environs of the sculptures (plural), sitting on bales of hay (no balers in ancient times), with the baby placed lovingly in a cage (a substitute for a “manger,” I’m sure.) I don’t see any poop around. Nor the stone or mud-and-wattle of ancient buildings… Goodness, for realism, Let There Be POOP! OH, I see. You just want your sanitized-sanitary Creche scene. Without poop. Without a very nice metal wire “manger.” Because you don’t want CONSCIENCE to get in the way of your Imaginary version of a baby who would be a refugee child, who would live under the tyranny of a culture which despised His culture and saw Him as a Threat for PREACHING LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR.

  8. Jim says:

People wonder why folks are turning away from the church? Really a catholic church should not be trying to make any kind of statement with its record of child abuse…….

    1. Katie Kelley says:

HOW ABOUT THE HOLY ROLLER MINISTER WHO RAPED MY BEST FRIEND??? IS HE DAMNED TOO???? FILTHY PROT MINISTERS RAPE CHILDREN TOO, AND AT THE SAME RATE. GET EDUCATED YOU FOOLS.

      1. John Owens says:

Katie, I am pretty sure that holy roller is damned, too.

      2. minister dixon says:

dammed that s.o.d will burn in the fires off hell no means no no matter what

  9. Kirk says:

Looks like typical libtard deceits at work. Why didn’t they do this when Obama was locking up more kids than Trump? Bandwagon morons ruining Christmas with political crap that has no place in a nativity scene!

    1. Reverend Krystina S. says:

Please see my post above, Kirk. And WHO is making this POLITICAL, with the use of the names of elected officials? Hmmm. Can I call you a RepubliKKKan? Or a ConservaFascist? Or a TrumpEEEjit? Or a ChristoFascist? How does that feel, to have people call you names? What ruins the celebration of the Birth of the Savior of the World is exactly those how purport to revere Him, His Day, hypocritically refusing to actually FOLLOW this Refugee, the Christ.

    2. Don says:

      Another Flat-Earther spewing his nonsense.
      How does it feel, Kirk?

    3. Don says:

      More WHATABOUTISM from Kirk.
Seriously admins, this site is open to all, but pedophile defenders should be booted.
May all child rapists and their defenders die horrible in a fire.

    4. Bob says:

      Oh, Kirk…you silly, little man.

  10. Minister Greg Harden says:

You are getting quite ridiculous. It is clear that some of you are more interested in dollar amounts than you are in the spiritual health of our world . The statement Jesus wept comes to mind. .. .

    1. Maine santo Santos says:

Boy oh boy that brings back a memory, wasn’t jesus wept the shortest verse in the bible? I remember talking of that in school in the 50’s.

  11. Alicia says:

Where was the “outrage” when Obama separated families and children were kept “confined”? How will we stop the influx of illegals entering our country if we do nothing about it? Would it be better to keep kids with their “parents” (who may or may NOT be their biological parents) in an adult confinement center?

The Catholic church should not be turning Christmas into a political message. How about a display showing a priest leering at a little boy?

I think it’s about time ALL churches lose their tax exempt status. Most of all, the Catholic church, that is sitting on billions of dollars of art and cash. Wake up, people!!! The church is corrupt as hell, yet it pays no taxes and feels free to get political. Where are all the donations going? Certainly not for education since Catholic schools are closing all over the country due to “lack of funds”.

    1. Detrick says:

Oh? And what evidence to you have of this? Fox News? Thought so.

  12. Alicia says:

When Vatican City opens its gates and allows illegal aliens in, THEN the Catholic church will have a right to complain about the US protecting our borders against illegals.

    1. John Owens says:

      Good comment, Alicia.

    2. The Roach says:

You _do_ realize that the Vatican has no border controls at all?

      1. Woke says:

Actually, the heavily armed Swiss Guard are stationed all over Vatican City (which has walls in many places as well), and you have long security lines to enter any building. I seriously doubt the Swiss Guard would allow hoards of people swarming the streets, sleeping on the sidewalks, and demanding food, shelter, and cash (like the people trying to illegally enter the US) for long, if at all.

  13. Raymond T. Cottrell says:

Shameful – and they wonder why people #walkaway

  14. Larry Copeland says:

I see Satan behind all this retoric. We as followers of Jesus have his word written, telling us Satan would do this with his angles and followers. Let God deal with it , BELIEVE 😇

    1. Rev Paul says:

This Satan is Myth. But Evil lurks in the hearts of evil men. That is real.

      1. Maiane santo santos says:

Satan is a myth and supreme being is a myth, +1 my friend.

    2. Lionheart says:

Of course you see Satan behind lots of things, because you’ve been conned and believe things that aren’t even real such as thinking your God will sort things out.

Your god loves humanity so much that he supposedly killed all the first born children to get one over on Pharaoh, instead of dealing with Pharaoh outright. He also killed the whole of humanity, men, women, and children by drowning them. Apart from one family. Kind of a weird type of god don’t you think? Keep on loving him though, and while you’re at it, you might as well worship Adolf Hitler. He was responsible for killing fewer people than your god. Plus, as far as I know, Hitler wasn’t that much into stoning people to death, so he might be a better option for you.

As for your angles, which I’m sure you mean angels, just as a heads up, they don’t exist either.

    3. Don says:

Angles are real. Angels are not.
      Get a grip.

  15. Lori says:

The cage also keeps the statue from being stolen. That happens a lot. Strange people just having fun. Anyway, it’s a peaceful protest. It’s only a big deal if people make it a big deal, and we all know how much people enjoy blowing things out of proportion. The cage isn’t actually hurting anyone, other than people who support separating children and locking them up.

    1. John Owens says:

Nobody supports that, but if you don’t know who they are, you don’t know whose children they are, AND the famous pic of children in a cage was a staged pic from the Obama era.

      1. Lori says:

Anyway you look at it, they are separated from their parents. It’s not a good thing, cage or not.

        1. John Owens says:

Again, no way of knowing if they are WITH their parents, or were sold to the adults with whom they are travelling, or kidnapped for resale to pervs in the U.S.

        2. Don says:

Welcome to America, where ALL felons are separated from their families (yes, even the children).

Why do you cry about illegals having their children separated, but say nothing about American criminals who have their children taken away?

      2. T'Keren Valmaz says:

Ah more of your anti obama cnspiracy BS eh JO. I didnt see one pic I saw plenty of live video footage of kids being kept in what I would certainly define as caged holding areas. Of small children screaming in fear and distress while dispassionate people who are supposed to represent what was at one time called the leading country of the free world behave colder then SS doctors working on captives.

        1. John Owens says:

Not BS, T. Not BS at all. I actually did not mention Obama personally, just the Obama era. See? Do you see what a jerk you are? If the small children were screaming, it was the fault of the adults who put them in that situation. Do you take children with you on criminal excursions?

        2. Don says:

Do you also protest children being taken away from their American parents who committed a crime?
Or are you only concerned with people of a certain skin color trying to illegally enter the country?
          Racists suck.

      3. Ren says:

I was a stranger and you welcomed me not…

The Christ didn’t put any caveats on it. Support for Trump anti- immigrant policy is being an anti- Christ (as explained by the three epistles of John.)

So when are you going to stop supporting Hitler?

        1. John Owens says:

So, Ren, You prefer a mixture of church and state, I see.

        2. Don says:

Christ didn’t put any caveats on beating slaves (Luke 12:47) or murdering nonbelievers (Luke 19:27) either. So when are you going to stop supporting slavery and the murder of nonbelievers?

        3. John Owens says:

You should know– Hitler has been dead a long time, Ren. You can’t just call anyone who beats Hillary Hitler.

  16. Rev Paul says:

Some will have a hissy fit over this but it is relevant. The ungodly Trumpean policy of child separation at the border is that evil. Mark 10:13-16 King James Version (KJV)
13 And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them.

14 But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.

16 And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.

Trump’s criminality has manifested into child abuse by this administration. God’s Judgement is upon him. One function of the church is to take care of the people. Putting children in cages is offensive to God and should be to you all…SHAME! if you had any in you.

    1. Jim says:

If you don’t like Trumps policy so be it. Now we have a group of the illegals in the caravan who have DEMANDED to be let into the country or pay them $50k each to go home. They feel we owe it to them for what the US policy is in Honduras. Tell ya what Rev. You pay the 50K and see what happens next. We have a real problem in this country with illegals that congress on both sides of the fence need address, they need to stop trying to save a new voting block and fix the problem. Trump is at least trying to fix a long stating problem that both Dems and Reps have been ignoring for decades. Ronald Reagan to Obama have all made major boners on this issue. How about instead of sending aid to these countries we just cut them off, or better yet if its because their government is corrupt lets take them out. That is what one group wants is for the US to take out its president. How long do you think the American people would back someone if we went to war in Columbia, Honduras etc to take out these bad guys that is making everyone in south America want to come to the US. I don’t think the Bible had any verses in it for this type of issues with this amount of people. But as for this article with the catholic church they have no right to say anything about the US policy. When was the last time you were at the Vatican. I was there a few months ago and I can tell you they don’t let just anyone walk into the Vatican either.

      1. Ren says:

First – the caravan is not a bunch of “illegals”. Such phraseology makes it easier on your conscience by dehumanizing these refugees. They are abiding by the law which Trump keeps skirting and trying to change.
Second – there has NOT been any such demand for $50000 (or any amount of money).

You are a hateful xenophobe who is an anti-Christ.

        1. Wayne Petty says:

Amen, Ren. All those FOX NOISE watchers that worship Trump will have a rude awakening when old orange-head is IMPEACHED, and goes on trial New York and other States.

        2. Jim says:

Ren when I first read your comments I thought this person wants to call me names and try and insult me and they don’t even know who I am. I thought I wont even dignify the response with another but then I thought wait they do have the FACTS WRONG. First off, there WAS a group from the caravan who gave a demand letter to the American embassy. They demanded that they either be let into OUR country or be given 50k each to return to theirs. They did say they were treated with respect when they presented the demand to the embassy so you need to check your FACTS. Second it would be kinda hard for me to be a “hateful xenophobe” considering I’m married to a naturalized citizen and have 2 “foreigner” sister in laws” all who have gained their citizenship LEGALLY. My next door neighbor of 30 years whom I consider one of my best friends happens to be from Iran and his kids and mine are the best of friends and have been since childhood. So you see Ren you just want to spew your hateful talk. I hope you do not consider yourself a Christian, as Christians I know would not be so arrogant as to assume things about people. As for me being the Anti-Christ I’m sure without a DOUBT that I have done more for my fellow man than you will ever come close to doing. People like you just like to sit back and try and make others feel bad and insult people to make themselves feel good. Unfortunately for you it does not work on me. So give it your best shot.

        3. John Owens says:

They WERE illegals. They were illegally in Mexico and wanted to be illegally in the US. That is not xenophobia, and YES, some DID ask for money.

    2. Lionheart says:

Hey Paul. I’m glad you referenced little children. Wasn’t it your god that was into infanticide? It seems that your god has a split personality. He condemns people for doing what he did, and makes laws to insist we don’t do what he did.

Don’t you find your god a little odd? It seems that Jesus tried to make up for his dad’s mistakes, but then he’s screwed, because isn’t he also his dad? It’s very complicated isn’t it?

What’s amazing is that people actually believe this stuff. It’s enough to drive people crazy who believe this stuff, and cause them to harm little children like your God did, but oh, wait, Priests do. But that’s okay, because Priests have a very poor role model in your god, so you can’t blame them. But I blame them Paul, and I also blame your god.

Anyway, keep worshipping your infanticidal God Paul. We’ll leave the fact that he almost drowned the whole of humanity, including little children, for another time. Perhaps you’ve only read the good bits in your book, so I don’t want to spoil what you haven’t read yet. Just as a heads up though, the end of the story is a bit gory, but you’ll be used to it by the time you get to the end, so you should be okay.

    3. Ken says:

Wow, who put their children in that situation? yes that’s right the parents! they are the criminals.

      1. Ren says:

Criminals? Hardly .. what criminal statute has been broken by these refugees seeking asylum ?

        You are an Anti-Christ.

Begone, Satan! The World is best rid of your seeds of xenophobia.

        1. Don says:

If you, a U.S. citizen, marched your child across thousands of miles of open desert, you would be arrested, charged with child abuse, and separated from your child.
But you give a free pass to these child abusing criminals from another country?
Why are you defending child abusers, Ren? We’d really like to know.

        2. John Owens says:

On Earth, the humans do not classify it as xenophobic to say that parents are responsible for the children they make… and carry across the desert… and try to illegally cross a border, and try to insist another country accept them.

From which planet are you, where parents are not responsible for their own children, and where it is xenophobic to say they are?

        3. Lionheart says:

Don’t worry REN, I totally understand you. I’m sure you live in a house with no locked doors or windows, and I can guarantee you leave any vehicles unlocked also, so that anyone entering without your permission can help themselves because they have less than you do, or they feel it’s their right.

If I’m wrong, please can you explain why I’m wrong? I await your reply.

  17. Bob says:

Why cage that poor baby? I prefer my savior to be “free range”! And for the record, those sneaky Latin American invaders planted one of their own in the Vatican…Where is the Pope from, anyway? Meanwhile, send our bombs to MBS while we starve real children in Yemen and beyond! Christians are so complicated…

  18. The Rev. Robert Barker says:

Here’s another nativity protest that the fundi-evangelical conservatives can be offended at and shout their charges of blasphemy: A nativity with a Joseph and his male companion gazing fondly on the baby.

I would remind you fundies that Jesus spoke and acted against the religious and political powers of his day. That’s why they ganged up on him and lynched him on a cross. That’s what the fundi- evangelicals who have compromised their beliefs by putting in with Trump would do to that Jesus today if he were here.

    1. John Owens says:

You don’t think the Democrats would call Him a hater? Nobody likes criticism.
      Geez.

      1. Ren says:

Stop with the deflection. I know for a fact that Democrats would not call Him a “hater”…
But an Anti-Christ like you on the other hand..

        1. John Owens says:

Boy, you really stepped in it, Ren. You need to think more or type less.

    2. Don says:

“Jesus spoke and acted against the religious and political powers of his day.”

No he didn’t; the Bible claims Jesus said to support the old religious institutional laws, not act against them:

      Matthew 5:18
For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

  19. Tom says:

Respectfully; there is no such thing as “blasphemy”…Peace…Tom

    1. oldaabill says:

  20. RevSheryl says:

A Wall will not stop people from seeking a better life for their family or self. The refuses are risking a life of hell from where they are coming from and where they are going. Try finding a job, shelter, food, clothing and other needs in a country where not having a cell phone or access of the internet will outcast you. I know those that believe in a Wall will say, “they will rob, steal, kill us and take what we have” Fear will not solve the problem of finding a way to help refuges. “Am I my brother’s keeper?” We have a soul-filled duty to help those in dire conditions. We can’t build a Wall around our heart and soul

    1. Jim says:

I don’t think they should stop seeking a better life for their family or self. I don’t think that 99% of the people who agree with the wall want people to stop coming here. We have a much bigger problem with human trafficking drugs etc. It’s also a question of knowing who is coming in and the wall will help with that. Fear has nothing to do with it. We need good laws and need to secure our borders. It is really that simple. Not just for criminals etc. but for our economy as well. There is literally hundreds of reasons we need to secure our borders just like every other country on the planet. You name me one country in the world that lets you come into the country without going thru their border security. EXACTLY there are none. Wonder why?

  21. Dorothy Cogswell says:

This is a very important, relevant statement. Action must be taken. This hate and division must stop or we will destroy ourselves

  22. virginia Feldman says:

WWJS? What Would Jesus Do–he’d do this wonderful theater, just like riding into Jerusalem: Jesus was an immigrant. He HATED walls. And loved all–regardless of papers.

    1. Jim says:

Back in those days they had no papers. Considering most could not read would make having papers a bit unnecessary. Also like Rome most cities had walls and guards at the gates. How do you know Jesus HATED walls? I honestly don’t know what Jesus would do and neither would anyone else. I do know that Jesus would say to follow the law of the land. That said Illegal is Illegal.

  23. me says:

    that’s awesome.

  24. mjs says:

It seems to me that it’s more important to express outrage than to examine the causes of children being separated at the border and fixing the problem. The immigration laws in question were actually designed with humanitarian concerns in mind. But as happens with most bureaucracies, there are unintended consequences. Allowing children brought across the border illegally to have a guaranteed court appearance but not their parents was intended to be a compromise necessary to prevent human trafficking. Instead, it created a backlog of children in holding centers waiting for court dates. The Trump “zero tolerance” approach has made things even worse.

The most humane policy I can think of, is to work with Mexico in housing immigrants there, families intact, until proper processing can happen. This would prevent people wandering in the deserts and becoming casualties of dehydration.

All countries have borders and immigration laws. They not only protect the people inside the borders but also people on the outside who are preyed upon by drug cartels and human traffickers. IDs need to be verified of those crossing and health checks and immunization records updated. Tuberculosis is a real problem again in the US because of unchecked immigration.

We can choose to display hatred towards towards Republicans and President Trump, or we can demand that both parties come to their senses and work together to solve these problems.

    1. Tom says:

mjs…the world would be better if more people thought the problem out as you do…Peace…Tom

  25. oldaabill says:

We use crates as houses for our pets. I’m not offended by the display. Jesus was born in a pet stall.

  26. Francisco says:

It’s a sign of the times…it bings Jesus to the 21st Century. 👍

  27. jim says:

i believe that the scene was right because the Bible itself says love your neighbor as you love yourself . seems there is a lot of people needs to pray and ask forgiveness for their actions .If anything let it show how we are a so called human nation treat our neighbors

  28. Esther says:

Here we go again, politics surrounding My Lord,

    1. Don says:

Jesus started the trend – did you complain when He did it?

  29. Secretary3rd says:

Your an illegal who have neither any right in the US yet you want everything that all American citizens have. You bring you kid along who need to be housed away from other adults. You house these children away from adults who you have no way of checking if they should be around children.
You put 500 adult women in one compound. 500 males in another compound. The children go someplace else.
Just look at the problem Mexico has with their migrants who are not being let into the US. The cost is going up. There they house the families that has added an extra expense on their small budgets.
Wonder what happens when additional 15,000 people crash the country.

    1. j says:

Solve the nano issues on WHY all these ppl are migrating from one country to another and fewer border wall will be needed. Look at all the migration in the UK areas B4, during and after the Hitler era. 50, 75 years alter ppl are still running / migrating to evade prosecution / crucifixion. Wonder why the Gr8 wall of China was built? Humans (ego / greed) never learn. History repeats…

  30. Kim Warr says:

I am embaressed to call myself a Christian. Shame on all of you.

    1. Don says:

Shame on people who can’t spell “embarrassed”.

  31. j says:

Baby Jesus? What’s the issue? Who said; Jesus was even white? Thats may not be Jesus in the cage. We heard some grapevine that Jesus was a middle eastern Jew… http://theconversation.com/jesus-wasnt-white-he-was-a-brown-skinned-middle-eastern-jew-heres-why-that-matters-91230
