The Power of Myth launched an extraordinary resurgence of interest in Joseph Campbell and his work. A preeminent scholar, writer, and teacher, he has had a profound influence on millions of people. To him, mythology was the "song of the universe, the music of the spheres." With Bill Moyers, one of America's most prominent journalists, as his thoughtful and engaging interviewer, The Power Of Myth touches on subjects from modern marriage to virgin births, from Jesus to John Lennon, offering a brilliant combination of intelligence and wit.
"The symbols of mythology and legend are all around us, embedded in the fabric of our daily lives, and the Moyers-Campbell dialogues are a welcome guide to recognizing and understanding their meanings." -- Cincinnati Post.
User reviewsThe Origins of Story
By Zack Greene, Dearborn, MI Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings. All three of these popular culture heavyweights, owe so much to mythology and the research of Joseph Campbell. If youve ever seen any of these movies, read the books, and are obsessed with them like I am then I can guarantee youll love this book. Campbell's The Power of Myth is a series of transcriptions of various conversations he has had with Bill Moyers of PBS. Campbells knowledge of mythology is second to none and this book covers it all. This is an excellent entry to the world of mythology and to the rest of Campbells work. An enjoyable read with beautiful illustrations, this one is definitely worth picking up!
